The process

We bring everything the job needs with us. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. It normally takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.

About our bathroom resealing in Tobermory

Sealant that is mouldy, cracked or peeling shouldn’t be left until there’s a leak. A photo of the joints helps when you email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk, and we will give you a clear quote for bathroom resealing in Tobermory. We work on kitchen worktops & upstands, baths and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are gaps between the worktop and the wall and a joint torn by a bath that flexes.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Tobermory work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

A 12-month guarantee comes as standard, so you’re covered after we’ve gone.

For landlords and businesses

We work for landlords and agents as well as householders. Resealing between tenancies is a simple way to keep a property in good order.

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so the work can be planned room by room. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

What guarantee comes with bathroom resealing in Tobermory?

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We are an ARBOMaster approved applicator, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.

How long before the new sealant can get wet?

Silicone is touch-dry quite quickly, but it takes longer to cure. Leave it around 24 hours before it gets wet, or follow the cure time we give you.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are glad to have it sorted.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.

What sealant work cannot fix

To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded

If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

What we seal

  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Surface by surface

Basins & vanity units

Basins take less water than showers, but the joint behind them is splashed every day. Old sealant there often goes black at the corners, and we treat it exactly as we would a bath.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Upstands and back edges are cut out, cleaned of grease and resealed, because cooking grease stops sealant bonding. Proper degreasing is what helps the new joint last.

How to look after the new joints

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
  • Don’t let bottles sit on the bead
  • Wipe up water along the back of the worktop

Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Run the extractor fan during and after a shower, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.

A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Resealing early stops it.

Why deal with it now?

Running new silicone over the old joint can look tidy for a few weeks, but it will not bond. It lifts, traps water and grows mould behind it, so the next person has twice as much to remove. Around Tobermory, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you are unsure, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

What bathroom resealing looks like in Tobermory

Tobermory is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

For an older house near a landmark such as Parish Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. If you look after a building such as Tobermory High School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
