Bathroom resealing for Canterbury homes and businesses

Bathroom resealing in Canterbury

Sealant is the soft line between a bath, shower or worktop and the wall. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through. Every trace of the old sealant is taken out and replaced with anti-fungal sanitary silicone. Typical jobs include gaps where the bath or tray has moved and shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop, across basins & vanity units, sinks & splashbacks and baths.

Canterbury has offices, shops and other businesses as well as homes, all with washrooms and kitchens that need the same care as a family bathroom. Homes and businesses get the same careful preparation before anything new goes in.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Canterbury as everywhere else we work.

Common questions in Canterbury

Do you cover Canterbury for bathroom resealing?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Canterbury is part of that. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.

Do you work in hotels near Canterbury?

Yes, we work for hotels as well as homes and businesses. Rooms can be done a few at a time, so the building stays open.

Will you leave a mess?

We keep the work tidy. We protect what’s around the joints.

When can I use the bath or shower again?

The surface skins over fairly quickly, but the bead needs longer to cure right through. Keep water off it for around 24 hours, or follow the cure time we give you.

Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?

Yes. We reseal worktop upstands, sinks and splashbacks, in a kitchen-suitable sealant, matched to the worktop where it’s on show.

Can tenants book the work?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Is white the only colour available?

We can use white, clear or a colour to suit. Where the joint is on show, we match it to the surface.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Always. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, and it’s something we never do.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

We don’t publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:

  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The product the joint needs
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll talk you through it.

Helping us quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:

  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs

To get a quote, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. We will give you a clear price before any work starts.

Surface by surface

Basins & vanity units

Basins take less water than showers, but the joint behind them is splashed every day. Old sealant there often goes black at the corners, and we treat it exactly as we would a bath.

Baths

Acrylic baths give a little under load, and even steel and cast iron baths settle slightly when full. Loading the bath with water before sealing allows for it.

How the visit works

Most of a good job is in the preparation, and we don’t rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it normally takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is. Jobs in a place the size of Canterbury range from town-centre flats to offices and family homes. Whichever it is, tell us how to get in, where to park and where the work is.

  1. Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.

Before we arrive

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

When something else is needed

To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:

  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • A leaking waste, trap or valve

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room. We have worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

How to look after the new joints

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Keep the fan on for a while after bathing
  • Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet

Clean the silicone with care: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.

There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Sealant is a maintenance item, like the paint on a window frame, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.

Bathroom resealing in Canterbury: local notes

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings. Canterbury has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room.

Homes close to Church of St Margaret include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. Schools such as St Peter's Methodist Primary School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. For landlords with property near Canterbury East station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.
