About our bathroom resealing in Camore

A bead that has gone black, split or come away shouldn’t be left until there’s a leak. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a photo of the joints, and you’ll get a clear quote for bathroom resealing in Camore. We’re often asked to deal with water getting behind the bath panel and gaps between the worktop and the wall, on baths, sinks & splashbacks and shower trays & enclosures.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are generally the first signs.

Every job is covered by a 12-month guarantee.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

How to look after the new joints

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Don’t let bottles sit on the bead
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Open a window or run the fan so the room dries

Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Run the extractor fan during and after a shower, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.

Watch for the early signs: a corner lifting, a gap behind the bead, a dark line under the silicone or a damp patch on the ceiling below. If you spot one, it’s time to reseal.

How it works

Once we’re on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. Somewhere like Camore may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area

For landlords and businesses

Letting agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements and we’ll give you a quote.

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance.

Different surfaces, different methods

Baths

Acrylic baths give a little under load, and even steel and cast iron baths settle slightly when full. Filling the bath first allows for that movement.

Wet rooms

A wet room floor and its walls can move independently, so the corners need a flexible seal, not grout. Where grout in a corner has cracked, we can replace it with sealant.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in Camore

Will you come out to Camore?

Yes. Camore is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is Camore in your area for bathroom resealing?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Camore is part of that. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.

What sealant do you use?

The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

Do I need to be at home?

That depends on where the joints are. Inside work needs someone to give us access, and for outside work we will agree access with you when we book.

How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?

The surface skins over fairly quickly, but the bead needs longer to cure right through. Leave it around 24 hours before it gets wet, or as long as we advise for that product.

Is there any odour?

Some sealants have a smell while they cure. Ventilation helps.

Does the resealing come with a guarantee?

Yes. Every job carries our 12-month guarantee.

Can mouldy silicone be sorted out?

Yes, by replacing the sealant. Sprays can fade the marks, but cutting it out and resealing is what lasts. Good ventilation helps keep it away.

Bathroom resealing around Camore

Camore is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

If you look after a building such as Dornoch Academy, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Common problems we fix in Camore

Black mould is behind a lot of resealing. Steamy rooms that don’t dry out keep the silicone damp for hours, and mould that has grown into the silicone normally won’t clean off.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal

For landlords with property near Tain station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.
