What affects the quote in Skelbo Muir

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Any mould that needs treating
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

Combining jobs into one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll give you a clear quote for the lot.

What we need to know

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:

  • The type of property
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs

To get a quote, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the location and a short description of the problem. We will give you a clear quote before any work starts.

Bathroom resealing in Skelbo Muir, done properly

Sealant is the soft line between a bath, shower or worktop and the wall. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through and into the wall or floor. Our team cut the old bead out completely and lay a new one in anti-fungal sanitary silicone. If you are dealing with gaps between the worktop and the wall and leaking joints on a shower screen, we can put it right.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Skelbo Muir as everywhere else we work.

Honest limits

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • A leaking waste, trap or valve
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands

How to look after the new joints

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
  • Wait for the cure time we give you

Keep water off the new bead until it has cured, which is generally around 24 hours. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.

A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning generally won’t remove it, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

How the job changes by surface

Baths

Baths move more than any other fitting, so we fill it with water before sealing. The joint is then laid with the bath at its lowest point and is not torn the first time it’s used.

Wet rooms

Not every wet room leak is a sealant problem. We reseal the joints and will tell you if the water seems to be coming from somewhere else.

What we do, step by step

The work is kept neat and contained to the area we are working on. Expect the work to take a couple of hours for a single bath or shower, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. For a place like Skelbo Muir, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. We tidy up and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in

Why act early in Skelbo Muir

A clean new bead makes a room look cared for, which helps when a home is being let or put on the market. A smeared, uneven DIY bead does the opposite. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You will know the price before we begin.

Can I do it myself?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

Skelbo Muir is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

In and around Skelbo Muir, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. Letting a property close to Golspie station? Then fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.
