Window mastic for Dailly homes and businesses

Windows and doors in Dailly

Sash and case windows are common in older Scottish homes, often pointed into the wall with traditional sand mastic. Dailly is in the west of Scotland, which is wetter than the east, which means the mastic around window and door frames has to cope with a lot of rain.

For jobs in and around Dailly, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish. In and around Dailly, as anywhere, good window mastic starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Window mastic in Dailly, done properly

Colour matters on a frame. We can seal in white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear, so the line suits the frame instead of standing out. If you have rain getting in at the frame or under the sill and sealant in the wrong colour for the frame, we can help, whatever the surface.

Outdoor sealant needs a dry surface, so window work around Dailly is planned around the weather. Let us know about access to every frame, including any upstairs.

Our work is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Why act early in Dailly

Draughts and leaks do not always mean new windows. If the frames and glass are in good order, resealing the joints is often all that’s needed. Problems with the glass or gaskets are for a window company, and we’ll say so. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs, along with when we can work on site. Ask us for a quote and we’ll go through it with you.

When it isn’t the sealant

We’d rather tell you now than do work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • A frame that has rotted at the joint
  • Condensation trapped between the panes
  • A sash or casement that won’t close properly

If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

How it works

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so you know exactly what we’re doing. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. Most jobs take most of a day for a typical house, less for a few frames. Around Dailly, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. First, we go round the frames with you and agree the list.
  2. We remove the old mastic and clean the frame edge and wall.
  3. Where the gap is deep, backing rod goes in first.
  4. The new sealant goes on in white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear to suit.
  5. Every joint is tooled smooth and checked before we leave.

Before we arrive

  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Looking after it afterwards

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Paint up to the joint, not over it
  • Air rooms to keep condensation down around windows
  • Use gentle cleaners on frames and sealant
  • Walk round the house once a year and look at the joints

Check the drainage slots in the frames aren’t blocked, so rain drains out rather than building up at the sealant.

Wet, windy weather is when failed mastic shows itself, but resealing works best in dry conditions. Sorting cracked mastic early means the joint is sound before the bad weather.

Surface by surface

Patio & French doors

Water at the foot of a door frame is not always the mastic: worn seals, blocked drainage slots or a poor threshold detail can be the cause. We look for the cause first.

Aluminium frames

Bi-fold and sliding aluminium doors have long frame joints, and the threshold joint takes a lot of water. Each is cleaned, backed where deep and resealed.

Dailly: your questions answered

Do you cover Dailly for window mastic?

Yes, Dailly is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

Will you come out to Dailly?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint before applying anything new.

Will new mastic stop draughts?

If the draught is coming in around the frame, yes. If it’s coming through the window seals, we’ll tell you.

Are you insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured.

Is it worth trying it myself?

Sometimes. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.

What information do you need?

A short description and the location. We’ll ask anything else we need to know.

What does window mastic cost?

It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. For a quick quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing and where.

How we quote for window mastic

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference.

What we need to know

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Photos by email, if that is easy
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • The rough size of the job
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

Call for a quick quote, or send an email if you’d rather. Describe what needs sealing and we’ll explain what’s involved.

DIY versus a professional finish

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
