Need regrouting in Aithsetter?

About our regrouting in Aithsetter

We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, or just the area that has failed. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. If you have stained grout that cleaning won’t shift and dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor, we can help, whatever the surface.

Being further from a city does not change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

FAQs for Aithsetter

Is regrouting in Aithsetter guaranteed?

All our work, in Aithsetter and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Is Aithsetter within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, including the islands, where work is planned around ferry crossings. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

How long does regrouting take?

A typical job takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, including the preparation. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes, we do. We work in homes, commercial premises and hotels, and we’re fully insured.

Is resealing included with regrouting?

Most of the time, yes. Grout fills tile gaps and sealant handles the moving joints, so both are renewed and it’s all in the quote.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the product. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

New grout can’t hold loose tiles in place. We check the tiles first and tell you if any are loose or hollow, so you can decide what to do.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. We remove it all first.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Aftercare is simple:

  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Have loose tiles looked at early

Have any tile that moves checked right away. A loose tile cracks the grout around it and lets water in.

Leaving failed grout can mean tiles come loose. Once that happens, regrouting will not fix it, so it’s worth acting early.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

From a single let to a portfolio, the work is the same standard: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

What regrouting looks like in Aithsetter

Aithsetter is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Work on the islands has to be planned around ferry crossings and the weather, so the more notice, the better.

In and around Aithsetter, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. For jobs in and around Aithsetter, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

Aithsetter is in the Shetland Islands. We carry out regrouting for homes and businesses in Aithsetter and the surrounding area. 63 places in the Shetland Islands are on our list, large and small.

How the job changes by surface

Bathroom floors

Grout on a floor is walked on as well as wetted. It gets worn and dirty.

Wet rooms

Wet rooms have water across the floor, so sound grout really matters. We check for loose tiles before starting.

What we do, step by step

Once we’re on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Preparing for the visit

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Advice

How we quote for regrouting

We do not publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. The quote depends on:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

We do not show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.

Asking for a quote

To make quoting easier, let us know:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking

For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or send an email if you’d rather. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we’ll talk you through the work and send you a clear quote.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

When something else is needed

New sealant cannot fix everything, and we will tell you before we start. It will not solve:

  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • A leaking shower valve or waste

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.
