Mail Regrouting
Professional regrouting in and around Mail, with old sealant always removed completely and a one-year guarantee.
- Stained grout that cleaning won’t shift
- Shower grout that has worn away
- Old grout in a dated colour
What affects the cost of regrouting
Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- Access and height
- Any working-time requirements on site
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- The amount of work
Combining jobs into one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.
Helping us quote
When you call or email, it’s useful to know:
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- The type of property
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and email photos if that is easy.
Regrouting in Mail
When grout stays dark however much you clean it, the stain is often in the grout itself. New grout is the fix that lasts and you can pick a different colour while you’re at it. If you have crumbling grout between the tiles and good tiles let down by tired grout, we can put it right.
Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

Surface by surface
Kitchen splashbacks
Grout behind the hob and sink works hard. We regroute and reseal the worktop joint.
Bathroom floors
Regrouting a floor brightens the whole room. The edges where floor meets wall or bath get silicone.
When to call us in Mail
Harsh cleaners and scrubbing wear grout away. Some bleaches and acid descalers break grout down with repeated use, until the joints are rough and low.
The problems people generally mention when they call are:
- Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
- Grout that’s cracking and breaking up
- Floor grout that won’t come clean
- Stained grout that cleaning won’t shift
In and around Mail, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
What your quote should include
- What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
- How much experience the applicator has
- Whether you can choose the colour
Can I do it myself?
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
When something else is needed
To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant will not fix:
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
- Loose tiles, which need refixing first
- Damaged tiles that need replacing
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

How it works
On the day, we start by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we’re doing. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. Most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Somewhere like Mail may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
- We remove the old grout carefully.
- Dust is cleared from every joint.
- We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
- We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any tricky access
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before

Advice
FAQs for Mail
Will you come out to Mail?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, including the islands, where work is planned around ferry crossings. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Is Mail in your area for regrouting?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Mail is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will send you a clear quote.
Should corners be grouted or sealed?
Internal corners and edges are sealed with flexible silicone. Grout in a moving joint soon cracks.
Where are you based?
We are based in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, we are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.
Which products do you use?
The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.
Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?
Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or just the joints that have failed.
How long does regrouting take?
It depends on the size of the job, but most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. We’ll give you a better idea when we quote.
Mail homes and their sealant
Mail is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.
In the older streets around Mail Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.
Mail is about 9 miles south of Lerwick, in the Shetland Islands. Across the ZE2 area, our applicators can take on regrouting. Mail is one of 63 towns and villages in the Shetland Islands we cover.
Every address in ZE2 is within our area for regrouting. Nearby, we also carry out regrouting in Bremirehoull (1 mile north), Cunningsburgh (1 mile north), Aithsetter (2 miles north-east), Sandwick (2 miles south) and Hoswick (3 miles south). Within a short drive, we also cover Lerwick (9 miles north), Sound (8 miles north) and Scalloway (7 miles north). If you are somewhere remote, the job takes a little more planning, so mention it when you ask for a quote.

Why deal with it now?
New grout smeared over the old doesn’t bond well. It sits thinly on top and soon flakes away, taking any repair with it. Raking out to a consistent depth gives the new grout something to hold. Around Mail, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.
Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You’ll know the price before we begin.
