Fire rated sealant in Camore, done properly
We often work from an action list drawn up by a fire risk assessor. Send us the list or the survey and we’ll quote for the fire-rated sealant work on it. We are often asked to deal with gaps around pipes and cables through fire-resisting walls and gaps flagged on a fire risk assessment, on service penetrations, flats & HMOs and pipe & cable gaps.
In a smaller place like Camore, commercial jobs are more likely to be a hotel, guest house, school, surgery or community hall than an office block. All of them have washrooms, kitchens and fire-rated joints that need looking after.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What we cannot put right
We’d rather tell you now than do work that will not last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:
- Deciding what fire stopping a building needs
- Doors that aren’t fire doors in the first place
- Issuing a fire rating or certificate for a building
Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we’re called out for in Camore
Buildings are refitted and reconfigured over the years. Conversions to flats and HMOs, and office refits, create new walls and new routes for services, with gaps to match.
Keep an eye out for these signs:
- Gaps left after a refit or conversion
- Damaged fire sealant left by other trades
- Ordinary sealant used where a fire-rated product was needed
- Gaps around pipes and cables through fire-resisting walls
For landlords with property near Tain station, new cables or pipes through a fire-resisting wall leave a gap that needs the right sealant.

Your questions about fire rated sealant in Camore
Is Camore within the area you cover?
Yes. Camore is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Do Scottish building rules affect fire-rated sealant work in Camore?
Scotland has its own building regulations, the Building (Scotland) Regulations, with their own technical handbooks. Fire-rated sealant has to go in to the product’s tested details, and we follow them. We do not certify buildings or carry out fire risk assessments, so your fire risk assessor or building control will advise on what’s needed.
Can I choose the sealant colour?
Usually, yes. White, clear and grey are common, and other colours are available for many products, and we agree the colour with you before any work starts.
How long does the job take?
Most jobs take anything from a few hours to several days, depending on how many gaps there are, including the preparation. We’ll confirm how long when we quote.
How do I get a quote for fire rated sealant in Camore?
The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Call for a quick quote.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit.
Is it worth trying it myself?
Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.
Can ordinary silicone be used in a fire-stopping gap?
No. A gap that needs fire stopping needs a tested fire-rated product.
Fire rated sealant in Camore: local notes
For seaside hotels, guest houses and holiday lets around Camore, busy months put washrooms and kitchens under pressure, so it’s worth checking the sealant before the busiest weeks. Scotland has its own building regulations, the Building (Scotland) Regulations, with technical handbooks. Quotes for fire rated sealant in Camore
Your quote is based on your job. We look at:
- The number of rooms or windows
- How much there is to do
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- Any working-time requirements on site
Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re unsure, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.
Helping us quote
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- Where the property is
- The problem you’ve noticed
- The type of property
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
It all starts with a short chat. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job. When it suits you, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Can I do it myself?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

How it works
All our tools and materials come with us in the van. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. It normally takes from a few hours to a few days, depending on the number of gaps and the access. Somewhere like Camore may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.
- Before starting, we go through the specification or action list with you.
- Each gap is measured and its substrate and service noted.
- Any non-fire-rated filler is removed.
- The specified fire-rated sealant goes in over any backing its detail requires.
- We hand over a list of locations and products.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any tricky access
- Clear the area around the work
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

How to look after the new joints
Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:
- Do not fill fire-stopping gaps with ordinary foam or silicone
- Plan fire stopping into any work that goes through walls or floors
- Take pictures of fire stopping before ceilings or boxing go back
- Check risers, ceiling voids and cupboards during building checks
Leave the sealant to cure fully before painting near it. Not every fire-rated sealant takes paint.
Small gaps around services are simple to deal with while there are only a few. Over time, more work adds more holes and the list grows.
