How the visit works
Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we do not rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it generally takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. Outdoor work around Ruthvenfield depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
- We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
- We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, normally after around 24 hours.
Getting ready for the visit
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

Advice
How we handle bathroom resealing in Ruthvenfield
Mr Mastic has more than 20 years’ experience of sealant work, and our applicators reseal bathrooms and kitchens across Ruthvenfield. We are ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and the work comes with a 12-month guarantee. We work on baths, wet rooms and kitchen worktops & upstands, and the jobs we see most are two layers of silicone, both failing and lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Ruthvenfield work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Ruthvenfield questions
Do you cover smaller places like Ruthvenfield?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Can you do bathroom resealing in Ruthvenfield?
Yes, Ruthvenfield is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes. We give a 12-month guarantee on every job, and we’re ARBOMaster approved applicators.
Can you just seal over the old silicone?
No, never. Sealing over the top looks fine for a few weeks, then lifts. Every trace of the old bead is removed first.
My sealant has gone black. Can you sort it?
Yes, by replacing the sealant. Sprays can fade the marks, but cutting it out and resealing is what lasts. Good ventilation helps keep it away.
What does bathroom resealing cost?
There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. We agree the price before any work begins.
Where do you work from?
We are a Crawley-based firm, with over 20 years’ experience. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. We’re approved under the ARBOMaster scheme, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.

Bathroom resealing around Ruthvenfield
Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
For an older house near a landmark such as St Serf's Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. If you let a flat or house near Perth station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.

What we are called out for in Ruthvenfield
The wrong product fails fast. Acrylic caulk and general-purpose sealants aren’t designed for a joint that’s wet every day, so they crack, discolour or grow mould quickly. A bathroom joint needs anti-fungal sanitary silicone.
The most common problems we see are:
- Water escaping at the shower enclosure
- Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
- Smears of silicone across the tiles
- A bead that has pulled away from the tiles
Schools such as Bertha Park High School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Should I try it myself first?
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
How to look after the new joints
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:
- Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
- Don’t leave water standing on kitchen joints
- Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
- Squeegee the walls and tray after use
In a kitchen, don’t let water sit along the back of the worktop and keep hot pans off the bead. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.
A failed kitchen joint is easy to miss. Water gets behind the upstand and into the edge of a laminate worktop, where it can make the board swell. A reseal in time can save the worktop.
What happens if it’s left?
Mould removers can fade the surface of a stained bead, but where mould is inside the silicone it usually comes back. The lasting answer is to remove the bead and start again. In a place like Ruthvenfield, small leaks are easy to put off, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.
