Bathroom resealing near North Berwick

How we handle bathroom resealing in North Berwick

Resealing is a small job that makes a big difference. Black, patchy sealant makes clean tiles look tired, and a neat new joint puts that right in a short visit. Just as important, it closes the gaps water would otherwise get through. If you have splits where the tray meets the wall and black spots spreading through the bead, we can help.

A bathroom in a place like North Berwick gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

Big or small, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee.

DIY versus a professional finish

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

When it is not the sealant

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that is regrouting)

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

Where we work in North Berwick

  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Basins & vanity units

Keeping the joints in good condition

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Do not let bottles sit on the bead
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant

Treat the new bead gently when you clean: a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth is enough. Avoid scouring pads and anything sharp, because a damaged bead gives mould a foothold.

Worktop joints fail quietly. Water gets behind the upstand and into the edge of a laminate worktop, and the board underneath can swell. A reseal in time can save the worktop.

For landlords and businesses

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. Several properties can go on one quote.

Letting agents and landlords in North Berwick can book us as well as householders. Sealant work between tenants is a simple way to keep a property in good order.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

For a quick quote, just ask. What matters most is:

  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Access and height
  • Any mould that needs treating

The cost depends on how much there is to do, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Asking for a quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy

For a quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. We’ll send you a clear quote before any work starts.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in North Berwick

Can you help a landlord with a rental near North Berwick station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Do you work in hotels near North Berwick?

Yes. Hotel and guest-house work is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.

Where do you work from?

We’re a Crawley-based firm. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.

How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?

A single bath or shower takes about a couple of hours, including cutting out the old sealant. A whole bathroom plus the kitchen may take most of the day.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes, every time. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so the joint is cleaned back first.

Do I need to be at home?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. Once we have agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. Tell us about everything you’d like done.

Leave it or put it right?

Fresh sealant smartens a bathroom or kitchen with very little disruption, which helps when a home is being let or put on the market. A smeared, uneven DIY bead does the opposite. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are unsure, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

Why us?

  • You choose the colour before work begins

What happens on the day

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The visit itself generally takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen, depending on the size of the job. Around North Berwick, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, normally after around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
