Signs you need bathroom resealing in Church Whitfield

Mould is the reason many people want their sealant replaced. Bathrooms without good ventilation keep the silicone damp for hours, and once it has grown into the bead, cleaning rarely gets it out.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
  • Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone

Managing a site like Whitfield Aspen School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

About our bathroom resealing in Church Whitfield

Sealant is the soft line between a bath, shower or worktop and the wall. When it splits, shrinks or turns black, water gets behind it and into the wall or floor. Every trace of the old sealant is taken out and replaced with anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We work on wet rooms, shower trays & enclosures and sinks & splashbacks, and the jobs we see most are a reseal done over the top of the old bead and mouldy sealant that has gone black.

Around Church Whitfield, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats, some with bathrooms tucked into older rooms or extensions. The work is the same as anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

What happens if it’s left?

Leaving a split or mouldy bead only stores up trouble. Water that gets behind a bath soaks into the floor, the panel and sometimes the ceiling below, and that is a far bigger job than a reseal. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Church Whitfield, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference.

Church Whitfield: your questions answered

Is Church Whitfield within the area you cover?

Yes, Church Whitfield is covered. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Kearsney station?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as householders. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear price.

What should I tell you?

A short description and the location, with pictures by email if possible. If we need more, we’ll ask.

Which products do you use?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.

When can I use the bath or shower again?

Silicone is touch-dry quite quickly, but it takes longer to cure. Leave it around 24 hours before it gets wet, or as long as we advise for that product.

Do the sealants smell?

That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.

What colours of sealant can you use?

White and clear are the most common choices, but other colours can be used to suit tiles and worktops. Let us know your preference when you ask for a quote.

How to look after the new joints

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Dry worktop joints after washing up
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower

Mould needs damp, so keep the room aired. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the bead dries out between uses.

A failed kitchen joint is easy to miss. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, and the board underneath can swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.

What we do, step by step

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you. The visit itself generally takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere as small as Church Whitfield, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. Finally we tidy up and explain the cure time before we leave.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on

Church Whitfield homes and their sealant

Church Whitfield is within about 3 miles of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Rented homes near Kearsney station change hands often, and fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Peter, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.
