Window mastic across Renfrewshire: what to expect

Over two decades of sealing frames has taught us which products suit which walls. We are ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and we give a 12-month guarantee on the work. Common call-outs are for hard, cracked sealant around windows and black, perished sealant on frames, on uPVC windows, window sills and patio & French doors.

When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours for a handful of frames, longer for a whole house.

  1. We check how each frame can be reached safely.
  2. Old, cracked mastic is removed completely, along with any loose debris.
  3. The surfaces are cleaned and left dry, and primed where the sealant calls for it.
  4. Deep voids are backed, then the sealant is gunned in.
  5. The joint is shaped to shed water and the area tidied.

What you will pay

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Landmarks near Paisley

In Paisley, that means homes and buildings near Castlehead High School, St Luke's Church and Gallows Green. Paisley has its own railway station: Paisley Canal station. Nearby you’ll also find Riccartsbar Hospital (less than half a mile west) and Paisley Museum (0.6 miles north). For a walk, there’s Walls Loch and Neilston Pad.

Windows and doors across Renfrewshire

From Paisley, Renfrew and Johnstone to its smaller places, Renfrewshire has windows and doors of every age and material. Each needs the right sealant, and every joint wears out eventually.

We work across all of Scotland, from the cities to the islands, and Renfrewshire is part of that. Longer journeys are planned in advance, and outdoor work around the weather. Along the coast in Renfrewshire, window and wall joints facing the sea take the brunt of the weather, so they’re often the first to fail. Good preparation and the right sealant help it cope.

Paisley: In the older streets around St Luke's Church, replacement windows fitted into old openings often leave uneven gaps that need backing and a flexible joint. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Castlehead High School, its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s.

When it isn’t the sealant

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • A door that needs adjusting, rehanging or new seals
  • Penetrating damp from a failed cavity tray or render
  • Faulty window hardware

What affects the cost of window mastic

Your quote is based on your job. We look at:

  • The number and length of the joints
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • The type of sealant required
  • Any working-time requirements on site

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

Helping us quote

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • The type of property
  • The address or postcode of the job

For a quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You will have a clear quote before work begins.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Make sure the drainage slots are not blocked
  • Use gentle cleaners on frames and sealant
  • Avoid blasting the frames with a pressure washer
  • Ventilate rooms so frames don’t stay wet inside

Wipe the frames with soapy water when you clean the windows, and avoid solvent cleaners on the sealant.

Draughts get worse, not better. As old mastic keeps shrinking, the gap widens, and heat escapes around the frame. A new joint closes it up.

For landlords and businesses

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report. We can quote for more than one property at once.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
