Need remedial sealant in Nethermill?

Remedial sealant in Nethermill, done properly

A movement joint stops working when its sealant splits or sets hard. We cut out the failed sealant and set the depth with backing, before resealing with a flexible product suited to the movement. If you’re dealing with repeat leaks from the same joint and black mould underneath the bead, we can put it right, on leaking tray & enclosure joints, botched or over-sealed joints and expansion joints alike.

In and around a place like Nethermill, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are normally the first signs.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee.

Different surfaces, different methods

Mouldy bath & shower sealant

Mould can sit behind the silicone, not just in it. We treat the exposed joint once the bead is out.

Windows & doors

Wrong-coloured or messy mastic can be replaced for appearance too, in a colour that suits the frame.

Nethermill: your questions answered

Is Nethermill within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is there a guarantee on remedial sealant in Nethermill?

All our work, in Nethermill and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Where are you based?

Our base is Crawley. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we can confirm the details when we quote.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

Do I need to be at home?

We need access to the joints, so we’ll agree that with you when we book. Indoors, that normally means someone at home.

What happens if the problem is the tray or the plumbing?

That is why we look for the cause first. If we find the leak is elsewhere, we tell you before going further.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes, every time. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

Why it’s worth doing now in Nethermill

Remedial work takes longer than a straight reseal, but rarely a lot: it takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied. It’s far less disruption than resealing the same joint again and again. Around Nethermill, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.

What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask about the job first.

Do you need remedial sealant in Nethermill?

Silicone only bonds to surfaces that are clean and dry. Residue, moisture or dust left in the joint weaken the bond, so it starts lifting sooner than it should.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Leaks that keep coming back after resealing
  • Thick, messy sealant smeared over tiles
  • Torn expansion joints
  • Sealant applied over old sealant that has lifted

Around Nethermill, as everywhere, remedial sealant is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Before you book anyone

  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it

Aftercare tips

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Do not add new sealant on top of old
  • Don’t point over movement joints
  • Run the fan after every shower
  • Report a tray that rocks or a worktop that lifts

Don’t let anyone seal over it later. New silicone does not bond to old, so the old bead should always come out first.

A split movement joint lets rain into walls and floors, and left long enough, the edges of the joint can crumble. Resealing while the edges are sound is simpler.

What we do, step by step

At the end, we look at the finished work together. The work normally takes a few hours, depending on how many layers have to come out, depending on the size of the job. For a place like Nethermill, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We start by checking the joint for movement, leaks and the reason it failed.
  2. All the old sealant comes out, including any layers underneath.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated for mould and left to dry.
  4. Moving joints get backing and a flexible sealant to suit.
  5. The new joint is tooled neatly and we explain anything else we found.

When something else is needed

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Plumbing leaks behind walls or under trays
  • A tray or worktop that needs refixing first
  • Water damage behind tiles that needs a tiler

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.

What we seal

  • Botched or over-sealed joints
  • Failed movement joints
  • Leaking tray & enclosure joints
  • Expansion joints
  • Mouldy bath & shower sealant
  • Shrunken worktop sealant

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Remedial sealant around Nethermill

In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

Whether the job is in Nethermill itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.
