Trusted regrouting in Wilton

Regrouting in Wilton, done properly

Most regrouting jobs include resealing too. Grout belongs between tiles, but corners and edges move, so they need flexible silicone instead. Doing both at once leaves the whole area sound. If you have shower grout that has worn away and good tiles let down by tired grout, we can put it right.

In and around a place like Wilton, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in the Scottish Borders.

What we do, step by step

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so you know exactly what we are doing. We protect the surfaces around the joints before work begins. The work normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Outside jobs in Wilton need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Preparing for the visit

  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

Advice

What affects the cost of regrouting

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:

  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • How many areas need sealing
  • The type of sealant required
  • Any working-time requirements on site

What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we ask a few questions first and send you a clear quote before work begins.

Helping us quote

You don’t need to know the technical terms. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Where the property is
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email

To get a quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You will have a clear quote before work begins.

When something else is needed

We’d rather tell you now than do work that will not last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:

  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before booking.

What we seal

  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Shower walls
  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom floors
  • Wet rooms

Wilton questions

Is there a guarantee on regrouting in Wilton?

All our work, in Wilton and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Do you cover smaller places like Wilton?

Yes. Wilton is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes, regularly. We can quote for several properties at once, and between tenancies is a good time for the work.

How long should I wait before showering?

Before we leave, we will tell you how long to wait. The grout and sealant both need to cure before they get wet.

Should I try DIY first?

For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator, and we’re fully insured.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Always. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, so we never do it.

Can you regrout if a few tiles are loose?

Tiles that have come away need sorting first. We will point them out before any grout comes out.

Should I try it myself first?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Common problems we fix in Wilton

Some grout fails because it was mixed or laid badly. If it was mixed too wet or not pressed in firmly tends to wash out early.

Look out for these signs:

  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Grout in corners that has cracked
  • Splashback grout that has darkened
  • A grout colour that no longer suits the room

Managing a site like Hawick High School? Then we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

What to look for in a quote

  • Which sealant they’ll use, and why
  • Is the old sealant removed completely?
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • How long to leave it before use

Our hiring checklist

What regrouting looks like in Wilton

Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

Homes close to Wilton Parish Church include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Looking after it afterwards

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:

  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
  • Have loose tiles looked at early

Have any tile that moves checked straight away. A loose tile cracks the grout around it and open a path for water.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.
