What we cannot put right

In fairness, some problems need a different trade:

  • A floor or wall that keeps moving
  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

Regrouting for homes and businesses in South Alloa

We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, or just the area that has failed. Either way, tiled areas in South Alloa are handled the same careful way. We work on kitchen splashbacks, shower walls and tiled floors, and the jobs we see most are cracked or crumbling grout lines and shower grout that has worn away.

Bathrooms in smaller places like South Alloa work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re not left on your own once the job is done.

For landlords and businesses

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. We’ve worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

For anyone letting property in or around South Alloa, several properties can be quoted together. Just tell us the addresses and what each one needs, and pictures by email help.

Surface by surface

Wet rooms

Wet room grout and sealant need to be in good order. We renew both.

Corners and edges

Corners flex as the building moves, so they get silicone, not grout.

How it works

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it generally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Around South Alloa, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

Advice

What we’re called out for in South Alloa

Grout used in corners or along the bath cracks because those joints flex. Those joints should be silicone, and if they’re grouted, a crack soon lets water in.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Splashback grout that has darkened
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change

Schools such as Alloa Academy are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

What to look for in a quote

  • What product goes in the joint
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • What the quote includes, VAT included or not
  • Who turns up on the day

South Alloa questions

Is South Alloa in your area for regrouting?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and South Alloa is part of that. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing.

Will you come out to South Alloa?

Yes. South Alloa is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?

Yes. It’s the ideal time to change it. Mention the colour you have in mind when you email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Do you grout the corners?

Corners get silicone, not grout. They flex and grout can’t take that movement.

Is resealing included with regrouting?

Normally we do both. Grout and sealant do different jobs, so both are renewed and include it in your quote.

Do you guarantee regrouting?

You get our 12-month guarantee on every job, and we’re fully insured.

Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?

Yes, that is common. Shower grout tends to go before the rest, so many people regrout just that part.

What information do you need?

Only a few details: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. After that, simply email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Can I do it myself?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Aftercare tips

A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:

  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner

Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it can harden properly. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and keep the room ventilated.

Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward while the tiles are still sound.

What regrouting looks like in South Alloa

South Alloa is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

For landlords with property near Alloa station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right. Homes close to St. Mungo's Parish Church include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.
