What affects the quote in Prestongrange

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • The product the joint needs
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Working hours on commercial sites

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, along with when we can work on site. Ask us for a quote and we will go through it with you.

Helping us quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • The problem you’ve noticed

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we will explain how we’d tackle it. Whenever you are ready, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

How we handle regrouting in Prestongrange

If you’ve been scrubbing grout that will not come clean, the discolouration has normally soaked into the grout. Replacing it is the lasting answer, and it’s a chance to change the colour too. If you are dealing with floor grout that has worn and darkened and grout in a colour the owner wants to change, we can put it right, whatever the surface.

A bathroom in a place like Prestongrange gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

Big or small, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee.

Prestongrange questions

Do you work for landlords with property near Prestonpans station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we will send you a clear quote.

Can you do regrouting in Prestongrange?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Prestongrange is part of that. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

When can I use the shower again?

It varies with the products and the room. We’ll give you a time to follow at the end of the visit.

Do you grout the corners?

Corners get silicone, not grout. They move slightly and grout can’t take that movement.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

In most cases, yes. The corners and edges should be silicone, and it makes sense to renew both together.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us.

What do you need from me for a quote?

A short description and the location. If we need more, we’ll ask.

Is it messy?

We keep the work tidy. Nearby surfaces are protected, and we clear up when we’re done.

How to look after the new joints

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner

If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. Movement will crack the new grout and lets water in.

Leaving failed grout can mean tiles come loose. By then, new grout alone is not enough, so it’s worth acting early.

Surface by surface

Corners and edges

Where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop, the joint is sealed. Grout there would crack.

Kitchen splashbacks

A splashback can be regrouted without touching the worktop. The worktop edge is finished with silicone.

Can I do it myself?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

What happens on the day

There’s no need to move everything out before we come, only the area right around the joints. Everything nearby is protected, and the work takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room in most cases. Outdoor work around Prestongrange depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

For anyone letting property in or around Prestongrange, several properties can go on one quote. Just tell us the addresses and what each one needs, and photos by email help.

Why deal with it now?

It’s tempting to fill a few cracks yourself, but the patches often do not match, and the old grout keeps failing around them. Regrouting the whole area gives an even, lasting finish. Around Prestongrange, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

What you get with us

  • Arbo and Everbuild products
  • Experience in homes, commercial sites and hotels

Regrouting around Prestongrange

Prestongrange is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

Schools such as Preston Lodge High School are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. For an older house near a landmark such as Prestongrange Parish Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. Rented homes near Prestonpans station change hands often, and stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.
