  • A floor or wall that keeps moving

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Moniaive

If you’ve been scrubbing grout that will not come clean, the discolouration has usually soaked into the grout. New grout is the fix that lasts and you can pick a different colour while you’re at it. If you have corners filled with grout instead of silicone and good tiles let down by tired grout, we can help, whatever the surface.

A bathroom in a place like Moniaive gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

Big or small, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee.

Moniaive questions

Do you cover Moniaive for regrouting?

Yes, Moniaive is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear price.

Is regrouting in Moniaive guaranteed?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Can you change the grout colour?

Yes. Many customers do. A darker grout hides marks better and lighter grout gives a fresher look.

How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?

It varies with the products and the room. We’ll tell you exactly how long at the end of the visit.

Do I need to be at home?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. Tell us about everything you’d like done and we’ll quote it together.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

Loose or hollow tiles are a sign of a problem behind them. Grout on its own will not fix that, and we’ll tell you before we start.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. As well as homeowners, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels across Dumfries and Galloway.

What the job involves on each surface

Shower walls

The grout in a shower takes the brunt of the water. We replace it and renew the silicone at the edges.

Kitchen splashbacks

We can regroute a splashback with the kitchen left in place. The worktop edge is finished with silicone.

What affects the quote in Moniaive

There’s no set price list, because jobs vary so much. What we look at:

  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • How much there is to do

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re unsure, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.

Helping us quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

For a quote, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You will have a clear quote before we start.

Moniaive homes and their sealant

Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

If you look after a building such as Cademuir International School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Leave it or put it right?

Colouring the surface of old grout is a quick cosmetic fix. They won’t fill gaps or keep water out, and stains can show through again. A proper regrout puts new grout in the joint. In an older home around Moniaive, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

Combining jobs into one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.

Looking after it afterwards

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Give the walls a quick rinse after use
  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then

Check the corner silicone now and then. It’s the part that moves, so the sealant there will need renewing in time.

Cracked grout does not stay cracked for long. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away, so regrouting early can save a retile.

What happens on the day

We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we’re working on, so you can get on with your day. The job normally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, and we explain the cure time before we leave. Outside jobs in Moniaive need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

When to call us in Moniaive

Hard water and soap leave a film on grout that is hard to shift. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Grout that’s cracking and breaking up
  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Old grout in a dated colour
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout

In and around Moniaive, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What to look for in a quote

  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
