Your questions about regrouting in Dunscore

Is Dunscore within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is Dunscore in your area for regrouting?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Dunscore is part of that. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

Normally we do both. Grout fills tile gaps and sealant handles the moving joints, so both are renewed and it’s all in the quote.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator, and we’re fully insured.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area.

Is the work guaranteed?

Our 12-month guarantee covers every job.

Which products do you use?

Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, picked for each joint. We’ll tell you what we’re using and why.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Dunscore

We work across Dunscore, regrouting bathrooms, showers and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, finished with new silicone at the edges. If you have good tiles let down by tired grout and greasy, stained grout behind the hob, we can put it right, on bathroom wall tiles, bathroom floors and tiled floors alike.

Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

How it works

We work through the job in order: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room and we leave things clean and tidy. Somewhere like Dunscore may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Advice

For landlords and businesses

Landlords and letting agents in Dunscore can book us as well as householders. Resealing between tenancies keeps a property looking cared for.

Hotels need rooms back in use, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

Why it’s worth doing now in Dunscore

Grouting over old grout rarely lasts. A thin skin on top tends to break off. Raking out to a consistent depth gives the new grout something to hold. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask about the job first and give you a clear quote before any work starts.

When it is not the sealant

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
  • A floor or wall that keeps moving
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing

If you are not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Looking after it afterwards

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges

Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it cures fully. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and let the room air.

Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. Once that happens, regrouting won’t fix it so early action pays.

Regrouting around Dunscore

Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

In the older streets around Dunscore Parish Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Common problems we fix in Dunscore

Poor ventilation keeps grout damp, giving mould a place to grow. When black spots keep returning, the mould has generally got into the grout.

Common reasons people contact us are:

  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Old grout in a dated colour
  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old

In and around Dunscore, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
