Need regrouting in Shawhead?

When to call us in Shawhead

Some grout fails because it was mixed or laid badly. Grout that was too wet, not packed in or cleaned off too hard tends to wash out early.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
  • Stained grout that cleaning won’t shift
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Shower grout that has worn away

Whether the job is in Shawhead itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Before you book anyone

  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • Which colour the sealant will be

About our regrouting in Shawhead

Changing the grout colour is a simple way to update tiles. Light grout can go darker to hide marks, or the other way round. Just mention the colour you’d like when you email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk. We work on bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and tiled floors, and the jobs we see most are gaps where the shower grout has gone and crumbling grout between the tiles.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are generally the first signs.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

How it works

At the end, we look at the finished work together and tell you how long to leave it. The visit itself generally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on the size of the job. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on

Advice

When it isn’t the sealant

New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not solve:

  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing
  • A leaking shower valve or waste

If you are not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we seal

Regrouting around Shawhead

Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

In and around Shawhead, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:

  • Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering

Use a gentle cleaner on the grout and a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it because they wear grout away.

Stains that will not clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.

Leave it or put it right?

Bleach can lighten stained grout for a while, but mould that has got into grout normally comes back. New grout, with silicone in the corners, deals with the cause. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Questions from Shawhead

Can you do regrouting in Shawhead?

Yes, Shawhead is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing.

Will you come out to Shawhead?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We have worked for hotels, offices and other businesses, and we’re fully insured.

Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?

Yes. Many jobs are just the shower walls, or the area where the grout has gone.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Always. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, and it’s something we never do.

Will it make a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.

Do you grout the corners?

We use silicone in corners and along edges. Grout in those joints cracks as the building moves.

How much does regrouting cost in Shawhead?

The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.

Landlord and commercial work in Shawhead

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so we plan the work room by room. We’ve worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

From a single let to a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a one-year guarantee.

Surface by surface

Bathroom floors

New floor grout makes a big difference to how a bathroom looks. The edges where floor meets wall or bath get silicone.

Corners and edges

Internal corners move, so they get silicone, not grout.
