Regrouting in Kirkconnel, Dumfries and Galloway
Our applicators work in Kirkconnel on raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
- Good tiles let down by tired grout
About our regrouting in Kirkconnel
Most regrouting jobs include resealing too. Grout is for the joints between tiles, but corners and edges move, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Doing both at once leaves the whole area sound. If you’re dealing with cracked grout along the bath or tray and splashback grout that has darkened, we can help, whatever the surface.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Kirkconnel work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.
You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Kirkconnel as everywhere else we work.

What we cannot put right
In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:
- Damaged tiles that need replacing
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
- Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.
What we seal

Should I try it myself first?
Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
Common problems we fix in Kirkconnel
Most grout is porous, so it soaks up water, soap and dirt. Given time, it discolours and begins to break down and showers that get daily use suffer most.
Look out for these signs:
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
- Grout that is cracking and breaking up
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
- Shower grout that has worn away
Around Kirkconnel, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

FAQs for Kirkconnel
Do you cover Kirkconnel for regrouting?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Kirkconnel is part of that. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Is Kirkconnel within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We are fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.
Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?
Yes, in most cases. New grout beside old sealant wouldn’t look right and could still leak.
How long does regrouting take?
Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, including preparation and clearing up. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.
How much does regrouting cost in Kirkconnel?
Size, access and the old material all affect the cost. Call for a quick quote.
Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?
Yes. Many jobs are just the shower walls, or the area where the grout has gone.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes, always, and completely. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.
Quotes for regrouting in Kirkconnel

We do not show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.
What to tell us for a quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- If someone has resealed it before
- Photos by email, if that is easy
- Roughly how big the job is
For a quote, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You will have a clear quote before we start.
How the job changes by surface
Bathroom wall tiles
Grout by the basin and bath tends to mark first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.
Corners and edges
Corners flex as the building moves, so we seal them rather than grout them.
How to look after the new joints
Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:
- Wipe water off the walls when you are done
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Rinse the tiles after showering
- Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it cures fully. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and let the room air.
Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.
The process
On the day, we start by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we are doing. Surfaces next to the work are protected before work begins. The work normally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. For a place like Kirkconnel, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.
- We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
- The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
- Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
- We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
- Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.
Preparing for the visit
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
Getting a quote
A good description makes for an accurate quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and add photos by email if you can.

Kirkconnel homes and their sealant
Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.
Rented homes near Kirkconnel station change hands often, and a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.
