What regrouting looks like in Longformacus
Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
Around Longformacus, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Longformacus
Regrouting is usually paired with resealing. Grout belongs between tiles, but corners and edges move, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Doing both at once leaves the whole area sound. We work on kitchen splashbacks, bathroom floors and bathroom wall tiles, and the jobs we see most are grout washed out of a shower and kitchen splashback grout stained by grease.
Being further from a city does not change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Common questions in Longformacus
Do you cover Longformacus for regrouting?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Longformacus is part of that. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Is there a guarantee on regrouting in Longformacus?
Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
What does regrouting cost?
The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.
Is it messy?
Tidy work is part of the job. Nearby surfaces are protected, and we clear up when we are done.
Where is Mr Mastic based?
We’re a Crawley-based firm. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.
How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?
You will get a clear time from us before we go. The grout and sealant both need to cure before they get wet.
Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?
It can. Because the old grout is raked out, the new colour goes all the way into the joint, not just the surface.
How the visit works
All our tools and materials come with us in the van. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. For a place like Longformacus, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
- We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
- We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
- We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
- The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.
How to prepare
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Clear the area around the work
- Keep children and pets away from the work area

Why it’s worth doing now in Longformacus
It’s tempting to fill a few cracks yourself, but the patches often don’t match, and the old grout keeps failing around them. Regrouting the whole area gives an even, lasting finish. In a place like Longformacus, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs, along with when we can work on site. Call for a quick quote and we will go through it with you.

Quotes for regrouting in Longformacus
For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:
- How much there is to do
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- Whether the work is at height
No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.
What we need to know
A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- The rough size of the job
- How we’d reach the joints
- A few pictures by email, if you can
Every job is quoted individually. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details and send photos if you have them.
Can I do it myself?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
Landlords, agents and businesses in Longformacus
Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.
Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. Several properties can be quoted together.
Do you need regrouting in Longformacus?
Most grout is porous, so it soaks up water, soap and dirt. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble, especially in a shower that’s used every day.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Grout in corners that has cracked
- Splashback grout that has darkened
- Floor grout that won’t come clean
- Cracked or crumbling grout lines
For an older house near a landmark such as Longformacus Parish Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.
Before you book anyone

- What guarantee comes with the work
- Who does the work, and how experienced they are
- What happens if the job turns out different
What we cannot put right
In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:
- Tiles that are chipped or split
- Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
- Movement in a stud wall or floor
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.
