Regrouting in Dollar
Tiled areas in Dollar need attention? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant, with a one-year guarantee.
- Grout in corners that has cracked
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
- Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
Regrouting in Dollar, done properly
A grout colour change can freshen a room without retiling. Light grout can go darker to hide marks or back again. Tell us what you have in mind when you ask for a quote. Typical jobs include shower grout that has worn away and grout that’s cracking and breaking up, on bathroom floors, wet rooms and tiled floors.
For a place like Dollar, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.
You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Dollar as everywhere else we work.

Should I try it myself first?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
What regrouting looks like in Dollar
In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.
Around Dollar, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it. If you live in an older home near Old Parish Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.
Dollar is about 6 miles north-east of Alloa, in Clackmannanshire. Jobs in Dollar get the same care as everywhere else we work: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee. We cover 16 towns and villages across Clackmannanshire. Why it’s worth doing now in Dollar
Colouring the surface of old grout is a quick cosmetic fix. They don’t fill cracks or stop water and stains often come back through. Raking out and regrouting replaces the grout itself. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
Combining jobs into one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We will give you a clear quote for the lot.

Dollar questions
Is Dollar within the area you cover?
Yes. Dollar is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Is Dollar in your area for regrouting?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Dollar is part of that. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.
Will there be a smell?
That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all, and any smell fades as they cure.
What should I tell you?
Just the basics: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. Then email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?
Silicone. Grout is for the joints between tiles and moving joints need sealant.
Do you work for hotels and businesses?
Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.
Can landlords and businesses book you?
Yes. As well as householders, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels in Dollar.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.
How we quote for regrouting
We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:
- How easy the joints are to reach
- The type of sealant required
- How much there is to do
- The number of rooms or windows
Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.
Helping us quote
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- Where the property is
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
For regrouting in Dollar, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk. Tell us what the problem is and where, and we’ll agree the price before any work begins.
What we do, step by step
A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, carry out the job and clear up. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Outside jobs in Dollar need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
- The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
- We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
- We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
- The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.
How to prepare
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

How to look after the new joints
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
- Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
Wipe the tiles down after a shower keeps water off the grout. Ventilate the room well to help it dry out.
Fixing grout early is a small job. Left, the same problem can let water through so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.
When something else is needed
Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant won’t put right:
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
- Cracked or broken tiles
- Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before booking.
