Regrouting for homes and businesses in Bridge of Earn

Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, others just the shower. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. If you’re dealing with corners filled with grout instead of silicone and a grout colour that no longer suits the room, we can help, whatever the surface.

For a place like Bridge of Earn, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, in Bridge of Earn and everywhere else we cover.

Aftercare tips

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout

Before we leave, you’ll know when the shower can be used. Please follow it, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.

Cracked grout doesn’t stay cracked for long. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away, so regrouting early can save a retile.

How the job changes by surface

Corners and edges

Corners flex as the building moves, so they get silicone, not grout.

Shower walls

The grout in a shower takes the brunt of the water. We rake it out and regrout, and reseal the corners.

When it isn’t the sealant

New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It will not solve:

  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If you are not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Surfaces we seal

DIY versus a professional finish

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

How it works

Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Somewhere like Bridge of Earn may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Let us know about parking restrictions

What regrouting looks like in Bridge of Earn

In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

Letting a property close to Perth station? Then clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again. In the older streets around Dunbarney Parish Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Your questions about regrouting in Bridge of Earn

I let a flat near Perth station. Can you help?

Yes, we work for letting agents and landlords. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before we start.

Can you do regrouting in Bridge of Earn?

Yes, Bridge of Earn is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we will send you a clear quote.

How long should I wait before showering?

The wait depends on the materials and how warm the room is. We will tell you exactly how long at the end of the visit.

Do you grout the corners?

Internal corners and edges are sealed with flexible silicone. Grout in those joints cracks as the building moves.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes, always, and completely. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so the joint is cleaned back first.

Should I try DIY first?

It depends on the job. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, we can. More than one area can go on one quote.

Do I have to be there?

We need access to the joints, so we’ll agree that with you when we book. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.
