What regrouting looks like in Scone

Scone has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

Letting a property close to Perth station? Then clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

How we handle regrouting in Scone

We work across Scone, regrouting bathrooms, showers and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, and we finish by resealing the edges. If you have good tiles let down by tired grout and a grout colour that no longer suits the room, we can put it right.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Scone work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

How we quote for regrouting

For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • The product the joint needs
  • Access and height

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

What we need to know

You don’t need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

There’s no standard price list, as no two jobs are quite the same. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To get started, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Different surfaces, different methods

Kitchen splashbacks

The grout by the hob and sink takes most of the mess. We regroute and reseal the worktop joint.

Bathroom floors

Cracked floor grout can point to movement underneath. We check the tiles before regrouting.

Questions from Scone

Is Scone within the area you cover?

Yes, Scone is covered. We work across all of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Perth station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can go on one quote. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.

Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?

Yes. Many customers do. Darker grout can hide marks, while lighter grout brightens a room.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us and we are fully insured.

What do you put in the joint?

It depends on the joint: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, we are fully insured.

How long should I wait before showering?

You will get a clear time from us before we go. The grout and sealant both need to cure before they get wet.

What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?

Silicone. Grout is for the joints between tiles and moving joints need sealant.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Aftercare is simple:

  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
  • Give the walls a quick rinse after use
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout

Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it can harden properly. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and keep the room ventilated.

Leaving failed grout can mean tiles come loose. Once that happens, regrouting won’t fix it, so it’s worth acting early.

What we do, step by step

Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, carry out the job and clear up. It usually takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. For a place like Scone, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Tell us if parking is tricky

Advice

What happens if it’s left?

If tiles are loose, regrouting alone is not the answer. We point that out first, so you can decide what to do. On sound tiles, regrouting avoids the upheaval of a retile. In a place like Scone, small leaks are easy to put off, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs. Call for a quick quote and we will go through it with you.

What we cannot put right

To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:

  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

When to call us in Scone

A poor original job is a common cause. If it was mixed too wet or not pressed in firmly can wash out within a few years.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Grout in corners that has cracked
  • Floor grout that won’t come clean

In and around Scone, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
