Bathroom resealing across G77: what to expect
A fresh bead of silicone changes how a bathroom looks more than most people expect. Mouldy silicone makes even a new bathroom look neglected, and a neat new joint puts that right in a short visit. It also seals the gaps that let water behind the bath. We work on wet rooms, baths and sinks & splashbacks, and common reasons people get in touch are lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt and shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop.
We keep the work tidy and contained to the joints we’re treating, so you can get on with your day. The job usually takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower, and we explain the cure time before we leave.
- We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant, including the film left on the tiles.
- Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
- We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
- New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
- We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, generally after around 24 hours.

Where we work in G77

We work across all of Scotland, from the cities to the islands, and G77 is part of that. Journeys are planned ahead, and outside jobs are booked around the forecast.
Newton Mearns: Letting a property close to Patterton station? Then a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Mearns Castle High School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
Different surfaces, different methods
Kitchen worktops & upstands
Upstands and back edges are cut out, cleaned of grease and resealed, since cooking leaves a film that stops silicone sticking. Proper degreasing is what helps the new joint last.
Shower trays & enclosures
A tray that rocks will split any sealant. Movement is checked before anything is resealed, and if the tray needs refixing, we’ll say so.
DIY versus a professional finish
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.
Looking after it afterwards
Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:
- Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
- Don’t leave water standing on kitchen joints
- Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
- Squeegee the walls and tray after use
Keep bottles and razors off the sealant line, because they trap water against the silicone. Squeegeeing the walls and tray after use keeps water from sitting on the joint.
There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.
What affects the cost of bathroom resealing
Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:
- Whether the work is at height
- The size of the job
- Any mould that needs treating
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
What it costs depends on how much there is to do, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.
Helping us quote
Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:
- How we’d reach the joints
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- The rough size of the job
For a quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. We’ll send you a clear quote before any work starts.
Leave it or put it right?
The difference in a professional reseal is mostly what you do not see: removing all the old sealant, degreasing the joint, treating mould and drying it properly. Without that preparation, the new bead won’t last.
Questions to ask before booking
- Who does the work, and how experienced they are
- Which colour the sealant will be
- How the joint is cleaned and prepared
- What happens if the job turns out different
Your questions about bathroom resealing in G77
Do you work in G77?
Yes. We work in G77. To book, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
What information do you need?
Only a few details: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. After that, simply drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.
Is it worth trying it myself?
For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.
Is white the only colour available?
Most people choose white or clear, and other colours are available to suit tiles, trays and worktops. Let us know your preference when you ask for a quote.
Can tenants book the work?
Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are glad to have it sorted.
Do you do kitchens as well as bathrooms?
Yes. Worktops, sinks and splashbacks are all part of the job, with a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows.
