Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in Walls

Across Walls, we reseal gutter joints, end caps and roofline trims. Low-level work is straightforward, and for higher work, tell us about access and we will confirm what’s needed. If you have gaps along fascia and soffit joints and rain getting in around a garage door, we can put it right, on gutter end caps, gutter joints and uPVC fascias alike.

Across smaller places in Scotland, stone and harled cottages, farm buildings and newer houses often stand exposed to wind and rain. Gutter joints and wall joints take a battering, so they need a sealant that moves with the building.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, whatever its size.

Why deal with it now?

If the problem is a blocked downpipe, sealing won’t help. We look at what’s really happening and tell you if something else is needed. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask a few questions first and give you a clear price before work begins.

Common problems we fix in Walls

Gutter joints rely on seals that age. Temperature changes make gutters move, and old seals crack or slip.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off
  • Drips from gutter joints and end caps
  • Water running down the wall below the gutter
  • Gaps along fascia and soffit joints

For jobs in and around Walls, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

What affects the cost of gutter sealing

The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Any working-time requirements on site

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

What to tell us for a quote

Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • The problem you’ve noticed

Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location and its rough size. A few pictures by email make the job easier to understand, and we’ll come back to you with a quote.

Outside joints around Walls

Walls is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Island jobs need planning around ferries and the weather, so the more notice, the better.

In and around Walls, as anywhere, good gutter sealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Walls is in the Shetland Islands. Anywhere in ZE2, we cover gutter sealing for homes and businesses. We cover 63 towns and villages across the Shetland Islands, from the larger towns to small villages.

Here we cover the ZE2 postcode area for gutter sealing. Whether your property is on New Road, Vagaland and Pier Road or anywhere close by, we can help. If you’re just outside Walls, we cover Easter Skeld (5 miles south-east), Sandness (6 miles north-west), Melby (6 miles north-west), Aith (8 miles north-east) and Kalliness (9 miles east). Larger places within reach include Lerwick (15 miles east), Sound (15 miles south-east), Scalloway (12 miles south-east) and Brae (14 miles north-east). If you’re somewhere remote, a little more planning is needed.

DIY versus a professional finish

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Honest limits

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • Gutters that have dropped or pulled away
  • Boards that have decayed or split
  • Cracked, split or warped gutter sections

If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Gutter end caps
  • Soffit joints
  • Roofline trims
  • uPVC fascias
  • Gutter joints
  • Garage door frames

What happens on the day

Once we are on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Outdoor work around Walls depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We start by tracing the leak and checking the gutter itself is sound.
  2. We clean out the joint and take out the old sealant.
  3. The joint is dried, because sealant won’t bond to a wet surface.
  4. An exterior or gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. The run is checked and any debris near the joints is cleared.
