Gutter Sealing in Sound
Professional gutter sealing in and around Sound, with old sealant always removed completely and a 12-month guarantee.
- Leaking gutter joints and stop ends
- Damp patches inside below a leaking gutter
- Gaps along fascia and soffit joints
Aftercare tips
Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:
- Check the gutters during heavy rain
- Do not lean ladders against the gutter itself
- Clear leaves and moss from the gutters
- Make sure downpipes are not blocked
Have a look at the gutter during a downpour now and then. Drips are easiest to spot while it’s raining.
Split sealant on fascias and trims lets water in behind. Resealing early protects the boards.
About our gutter sealing in Sound
Failed sealant round a garage door frame lets rain blow in. We cut out the old sealant and reseal the frame using a sealant made for outdoor use. We work on soffit joints, uPVC fascias and gutter joints, and the jobs we see most are damp patches inside below a leaking gutter and garage door frames letting rain in.
Older stone buildings need a sealant that suits the stone, not an acetoxy product that can mark or attack it. Newer houses need their movement joints and roofline trims kept sound.
There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, large or small.

Gutter sealing in Sound: local notes
Sound is close to the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That’s hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Island jobs need planning around ferries and the weather, so give us as much notice as you can.
Managing a site like Anderson High School? Then its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s.
Sound is about 1 mile south-west of Lerwick, in the Shetland Islands. Whether you’re in the middle of Sound or further out, we cover gutter sealing for every kind of property. Sound is one of 63 towns and villages in the Shetland Islands where we work for gutter sealing.
Every address in ZE1 is covered for gutter sealing. Whether your property is on Quoys Road, South Road and Oversund Road or anywhere close by, our applicators can take on the job. If you’re just outside Sound, we cover Lerwick (1 mile north-east), Gulberwick (2 miles south-west), Gremista (2 miles north), Grindiscol (2 miles east) and Heogan (2 miles north-east). As one of the bigger places in the Shetland Islands, Sound has homes, rented property and businesses of every kind. For island and remote addresses, a little more planning is needed.

What happens on the day
Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and clear up. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Somewhere like Sound may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.
- We start by tracing the leak and checking the gutter itself is sound.
- Old sealant and dirt are removed from the joint.
- The joint is dried, because sealant won’t bond to a wet surface.
- We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters and outdoor use.
- We check the run and clear any debris we find while we are there.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

What we’re called out for in Sound
Gutter joints depend on seals that wear out. Temperature changes make gutters move, and old seals crack or slip.
Look out for these signs:
- Garage door frames letting rain in
- Cracked sealant along roofline trims
- Internal damp traced to a gutter joint
- Gaps along fascia and soffit joints
Around Sound, as everywhere, gutter sealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.
What your quote should include
- What the cure time is
- How hidden problems are handled
- What product goes in the joint
- What insurance they hold
What affects the cost of gutter sealing
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- The type of sealant required
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- How much there is to do
The cost depends on the amount of work, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before we start.
What we need to know
You don’t need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:
- A few photos by email, if you can
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- How we’d reach the joints
Want a quote for gutter sealing? Please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the job. We will explain what we’d do and give you a clear quote before any work starts.
What we cannot put right
Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:
- Roof leaks, slipped tiles or failed flashing (a roofer’s job)
- A gutter length that has split
- Brackets that have snapped or loosened
Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.
Surfaces we seal
- Roofline trims
- Soffit joints
- Gutter joints
- Garage door frames
- uPVC fascias
- Gutter end caps
Can I do it myself?
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.
Leave it or put it right?
A dripping gutter joint keeps wetting the same patch of wall. Left, it can stain walls and lead to damp so early sealing is worthwhile. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Sound questions
Is Sound within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, islands included, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Does living near the coast affect gutter sealing in Sound?
Coastal homes put outside sealant through more weather than inland ones, so preparation and the right sealant matter all the more. Walls facing the sea are generally the first to need attention.
How do I get a quote for gutter sealing in Sound?
It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. For a quick quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a short description of the job.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.
What sealant do you use?
The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.
Can a leaking gutter joint be sealed?
In many cases, yes. Cleaning, drying and resealing the joint generally works. A split or warped section needs replacing.
What about gutters on a second or third storey?
That depends on the building. Tell us the height and what’s around the gutter when you send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Do you clean gutters?
Only around the joints we seal, so the sealant can bond. Cleaning the whole run is a separate job.
