Glazing silicone in Walls, done properly

Our work covers conservatory joints, rooflights and glass panels plus shower screens and the bases of glass balustrades. Each joint is cut out, cleaned and resealed. We work on glass-to-glass joints, conservatory frames and shower screens, and the jobs we see most are a quick top-up bead that didn’t last and water running down inside the glass.

Outdoor sealant needs a dry surface, so window work around Walls is planned around the weather. Let us know about access to every frame, including any upstairs.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job.

What the job involves on each surface

Glass-to-frame joints

Old sealant is removed carefully from the glass before new glazing silicone goes in.

Glass balustrade bases

The base of a glass balustrade is normally sealed. Failed sealant there lets water collect.

Landlord and commercial work in Walls

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance.

Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Walls: your questions answered

Can you do glazing silicone in Walls?

Yes, Walls is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Is Walls within the area you cover?

Yes, Walls is covered. We work across all of Scotland, islands included, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We are based in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Is it messy?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

What sealant do you use on glazing?

Glass needs a sealant made for glazing. We use neutral-cure glazing silicone with anti-fungal products in bathrooms.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.

Are you insured?

Yes, we’re fully insured for every job we do.

Do you offer different sealant colours?

We will suggest a colour to suit the surroundings. The choice depends on the product the joint needs.

Quotes for glazing silicone in Walls

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:

  • The product the joint needs
  • Whether the work is at height
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • The size of the job

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Ask us for a quote and we will go through it with you.

Asking for a quote

When you call or email, it’s useful to know:

  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

Every job is quoted individually. Simply email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job.

Leave it or put it right?

Leaks get worse, not better. Left, water can mark floors, damage plaster and rot timber, so it pays to deal with it early. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

Why us?

  • Trusted Arbo and Everbuild sealants
  • Anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas
  • We are fully insured
  • A 12-month guarantee on all work

Read our cost guide or what customers say.

How the visit works

At the end, we look at the finished work together and explain the cure time. The work normally takes a few hours, depending on how many joints need doing, depending on the amount of work. For a place like Walls, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We look at the glazing and agree which joints need resealing.
  2. We cut away the failed silicone.
  3. The surfaces are cleaned with a suitable solvent.
  4. We apply and tool the new silicone.
  5. We inspect the work and test it where we can.

How to prepare

  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Advice

How to look after the new joints

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Act on drips or damp patches early
  • Keep conservatory gutters clear of leaves
  • Squeegee the shower screen after each use
  • Use gentle products around the joints

On shower screens, wipe or squeegee after use and keep the room ventilated. It helps stop mould getting into the silicone.

Conservatory leaks rarely stay small. Water runs along frames and down walls so it’s best dealt with straight away.

Glazing silicone in Walls: local notes

Walls is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on glazing joints and frame seals, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Many older homes in Scotland have sash and case windows, and the joint between the box frame and the stone or render is traditionally pointed with sand mastic.

For jobs in and around Walls, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish. Around Walls, as everywhere, glazing silicone is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Walls is in the Shetland Islands. Walls gets the same service as everywhere we cover: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee. Walls is one of 63 towns and villages in the Shetland Islands we cover for glazing silicone.

We cover every part of ZE2 for glazing silicone and the streets around it. You’ll find streets such as New Road, Vagaland and Pier Road. Other places close to Walls include Easter Skeld (5 miles south-east), Sandness (6 miles north-west), Melby (6 miles north-west), Aith (8 miles north-east) and Kalliness (9 miles east). Larger places within reach include Lerwick (15 miles east), Sound (15 miles south-east), Scalloway (12 miles south-east) and Brae (14 miles north-east). If you are somewhere remote, the job takes a little more planning, so mention it when you ask for a quote.
