Outside joints around Airbles
Historic houses like Cambusnethan House (about 2.6 miles south-east) are a reminder that the area around Airbles has older buildings as well as new. In older buildings, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material. Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex.
Rented homes near Airbles station change hands often, and outside joints that have cracked can let damp into a rental, so check them between lets. Historic houses such as Cambusnethan House, about 2.6 miles south-east, show how far back building around Airbles goes.

External mastic in Airbles, done properly
On houses, flats and commercial buildings across Airbles, we reseal joints in brickwork, render, cladding and façade panels. The preparation is the same whatever the wall: clean joint faces and the right depth. If you’re dealing with weeds or debris growing in open joints and cracked joints where brick meets render or frames, we can help, on façade panels, joints between brick and frames and copings & trims alike.
Older stone buildings need a sealant that suits the stone, not an acetoxy product that can mark or attack it. On newer homes, the movement joints and roofline trims are what need watching.
A 12-month guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once the job is done.

Common questions in Airbles
I let a flat near Airbles station. Can you help?
Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
Is Airbles within the area you cover?
Yes, Airbles is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
How much does external mastic cost in Airbles?
Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. For a quick quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a short description of the job.
What is backing rod for?
The foam is closed-cell backing rod. It keeps the sealant at the right depth and bonded to the sides only so it can flex with the joint.
How long will you be here?
That depends on the amount of work, but as a guide it takes a few hours for a handful of joints, longer for a whole elevation. We will give you a better idea when we quote.
Do you guarantee your work?
Yes, always. There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, wherever you are.
Do you do commercial work?
Yes. We have worked for hotels, offices and other businesses and we’re fully insured.
Will you leave a mess?
We keep the work tidy. We protect what’s around the joints.
What happens if it’s left?
Running new sealant over the old bead rarely lasts. The new layer can’t bond properly to old, weathered material, so we always take the old sealant out. In a place like Airbles, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

What happens on the day
A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and clear up. It normally takes a few hours for a handful of joints, longer for a whole elevation. Outdoor work around Airbles depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.
- Each joint is checked and the colour of the new sealant agreed.
- Failed sealant is removed back to clean, sound faces.
- Backing rod goes in so the sealant can stretch between the two faces.
- We prime the faces where required.
- We gun in low-modulus sealant and tool it neatly.
Getting ready for the visit
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

Do you need external mastic in Airbles?
A lot of failed joints come down to preparation: joint faces that were dusty or damp, unprimed where they needed it, or still carrying old sealant. The sealant never bonds properly.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Rigid filler in a joint that should flex
- Old sealant gone brittle and cracked
- Weeds or debris growing in open joints
- Water getting into walls through failed joints
Schools such as Dalziel High School are buildings too, and movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.
Comparing quotes
- How the joint is cleaned and prepared
- What product goes in the joint
- Whether they seal over old material or remove it
- How long to leave it before use
Quotes for external mastic in Airbles
Every job gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- How easy the joints are to reach
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- Which sealant suits the joint
Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.
What to tell us for a quote
Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Whether it has been sealed before
- The type of property
- Photos by email, if that is easy
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints.
Different surfaces, different methods
Render joints
Render is weaker at the surface than brick, so a low-modulus sealant is kinder to the joint edges. We prime where the product needs it.
Concrete and blockwork
Concrete faces can be dusty and porous, so cleaning and priming matter. We prime where the sealant needs it before the bead.
