Bathroom resealing in Stromness

What happens if it’s left?

A failed joint gets more costly to put right the longer it’s left. Once water is behind the bath, it can reach floorboards, panels and the ceiling underneath, turning a small job into a building repair. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll talk you through it.

Bathroom resealing in Stromness

A fresh bead of silicone changes how a bathroom looks more than most people expect. Black, patchy sealant makes clean tiles look tired, and a neat new joint puts that right in a short visit. Just as important, it closes the gaps water would otherwise get through. If you have cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone and water getting behind the bath panel, we can help, on shower trays & enclosures, kitchen worktops & upstands and wet rooms alike.

In and around a place like Stromness, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are normally the first signs.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

Can I do it myself?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

If you manage several properties in or around Stromness, jobs at different addresses can be quoted together. Send us the addresses and the work at each.

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Stromness

Stromness is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

Around Stromness, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Stromness is about 12 miles west of Kirkwall, in the Orkney Islands. Jobs in Stromness get the same care as everywhere else we work: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a one-year guarantee. Across the Orkney Islands, we cover 51 places, and Stromness is one of them.

We cover every part of KW16 for bathroom resealing. If you need bathroom resealing at a property on Franklin Road, Manse Lane and Springfield Crescent or anywhere close by, we can help. Being close to the A965, Stromness is easy for our applicators to reach for bathroom resealing. Other places close to Stromness include Cairston (1 mile north-east), Clouston (3 miles north-east), Stenness (4 miles north-east), Hoy (4 miles south) and Wasbister (4 miles north-east). Stromness is among the bigger towns we cover in the Orkney Islands. For island and remote addresses, the job takes a little more planning, so let us know when you get in touch.

Stromness: your questions answered

Is there a guarantee on bathroom resealing in Stromness?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Will you come out to Stromness?

Yes. Stromness is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, including the islands, where work is planned around ferry crossings. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Should I try DIY first?

For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

Do the sealants smell?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures, which fades as it sets. Ventilation helps.

Is it messy?

No. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

What does bathroom resealing cost?

Size, access and the old material all affect the cost. Ask us for a quote and we will talk you through it.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes, often. We can quote for several properties at once, and between tenancies is a good time for the work.

What we do, step by step

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. Most jobs take half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included. For a place like Stromness, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

How to prepare

When it isn’t the sealant

New sealant can’t fix everything, and we will tell you before we start. Sealant won’t put right:

  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Signs you need bathroom resealing in Stromness

Mould is the reason many people want their sealant replaced. Bathrooms without good ventilation give mould all the damp it needs, and mould that has grown into the silicone normally won’t clean off.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • Water escaping at the shower enclosure

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as stromness primary school, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
