About our bathroom resealing in Ravenscraig
Sealant is the soft line between a bath, shower or worktop and the wall. When it splits, shrinks or turns black, water gets behind it and into the wall or floor. Every trace of the old sealant is taken out and replaced with anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We work on kitchen worktops & upstands, shower trays & enclosures and basins & vanity units, and people most often call us about cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone and a reseal done over the top of the old bead.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Ravenscraig work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.
A 12-month guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Different surfaces, different methods
Basins & vanity units
The back of a basin gets wet every time someone washes. Corners behind basins are where mould tends to start, and we treat it exactly as we would a bath.
Wet rooms
In a wet room, the joints between floor and walls take standing water. They get anti-fungal sanitary silicone, and our work is on the visible joints only.
Bathroom resealing in Ravenscraig: local notes
Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
Schools such as Our Lady's High School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Why deal with it now?
Tired sealant is not a reason to replace a bath or shower. A new bead often brings the whole room back, provided the bath, tray and tiles are in good order. If we find a deeper problem, you’ll hear it from us. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

DIY versus a professional finish
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
When to call us in Ravenscraig
No sealant lasts indefinitely. Daily water, heat and cleaning products take their toll over the years, and how long it lasts comes down to use, cleaning and ventilation.
Any of these means the joints need attention:
- A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
- Water escaping at the shower enclosure
- Gaps between the worktop and the wall
- A joint torn by a bath that flexes
Rented homes near Shieldmuir station change hands often, and fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

How we quote for bathroom resealing
We don’t publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:
- Any mould that needs treating
- Which sealant suits the joint
- The size of the job
- When we can work, for business premises
Combining jobs into one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.
What we need to know
When you contact us, it’s useful to know:
- If someone has resealed it before
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
A good description makes for an accurate quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is.
When it is not the sealant
We will not take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
- A bath or tray that moves because it is not properly supported
- A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before booking.

What we do, step by step
Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. Most jobs take two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is. Around Ravenscraig, distance and access matter more than parking. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.
- We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant, including the film left on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
- New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
- We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, normally after around 24 hours.
Before we arrive
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Mention any tricky access
- Clear items away from the joints we’re working on

Your questions about bathroom resealing in Ravenscraig
Do you cover smaller places like Ravenscraig?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
I let a flat near Shieldmuir station. Can you help?
Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as householders, and several properties can be quoted together. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.
Will it make a mess?
Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We’re fully insured.
Will there be a smell?
That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.
How long before the new sealant can get wet?
Silicone is touch-dry quite quickly, but it takes longer to cure. Keep water off it for around 24 hours, or follow the cure time we give you.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator, the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants.
Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?
No. Fresh silicone cannot stick to the old bead, so it peels away and hides mould and water. All the old sealant comes out first.
