Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Pitlochry

Mr Mastic has more than 20 years’ experience of sealant work, and our applicators reseal bathrooms and kitchens across Pitlochry. We’re fully insured ARBOMaster approved applicators, and every job carries our 12-month guarantee. We work on baths, wet rooms and sinks & splashbacks, and people most often call us about lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt and black spots spreading through the bead.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Pitlochry work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

We stand behind the work with a 12-month guarantee, so you’re not left on your own once the job is done.

The process

We keep the work tidy and contained to the joints we’re treating. The job generally takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

When to call us in Pitlochry

Mould is the reason many people want their sealant replaced. Bathrooms without good ventilation keep the silicone damp for hours, and once it has grown into the bead, cleaning rarely gets it out.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Water escaping at the shower enclosure
  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray
  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop

In the older streets around Pitlochry Church of Scotland, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

What to look for in a quote

  • Are they insured?
  • Is VAT in the price?
  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • What product goes in the joint

10 questions to ask before you book

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.

What we can’t put right

In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we seal

  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Baths
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is simple:

  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Wipe up water along the back of the worktop

Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the bead dries out between uses.

Worktop joints fail quietly. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, where it can make the board swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.

Where is Mr Mastic based?
