Bathroom resealing in Norseman, done properly

We fill the bath before sealing it. The weight settles the bath to its lowest point, so the new joint is not pulled apart the first time it’s used. Quick jobs often leave it out, and it makes a real difference. If you have new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting and failed sealant on the screen profile, we can put it right.

In and around a place like Norseman, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

A 12-month guarantee comes as standard, so you’re covered after we have gone.

How it works

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that is where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. Outside jobs in Norseman need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors is not affected.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

What bathroom resealing looks like in Norseman

Norseman is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

In and around Norseman, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Norseman is about 7 miles north-west of Kirkwall, in the Orkney Islands. Anywhere in KW17, our applicators can take on bathroom resealing. Our the Orkney Islands coverage runs to 51 places, Norseman among them.

All of KW17 is covered for bathroom resealing, from the main roads to the quietest streets. Neighbouring places we cover for bathroom resealing include Isbister (1 mile east), Settiscarth (1 mile west), Gorseness (2 miles north-east), Tingwall (3 miles north-east) and Finstown (3 miles south). If you are somewhere remote, the job takes a little more planning, so mention it when you ask for a quote.

Landlord and commercial work in Norseman

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

What happens if it’s left?

Bleach and mould sprays may lighten black marks for a while, but mould that has grown into the sealant tends to return. The lasting answer is to remove the bead and start again. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out

What to tell us for a quote

Norseman: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Norseman?

Yes, Norseman is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, islands included, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

What guarantee comes with bathroom resealing in Norseman?

All our work, in Norseman and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?

It takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included. We’ll confirm how long your job needs when we quote.

What do you put in the joint?

Each joint gets the product that suits it. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes, we can. More than one area can go on one quote.

Can I choose the colour of the sealant?

You are not limited to white: clear, white and colours chosen to suit the room. We will talk it through when we quote.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator and we are fully insured too.

Do the sealants smell?

That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.

Signs you need bathroom resealing in Norseman

Baths and trays move. An acrylic bath flexes under load, and a tray that is not fully bedded can rock. That movement works at the bead until it splits or peels away.

The problems people usually mention when they call include:

  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead
  • Water getting behind the kitchen upstand
  • A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black

Whether the job is in Norseman itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

What your quote should include

  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • Is VAT in the price?
  • What guarantee comes with the work
  • Which colour the sealant will be

Our hiring checklist

Can I do it myself?

Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

What the job involves on each surface

Wet rooms

Not every wet room leak is a sealant problem. We check the joints and say so if the fault looks to be elsewhere.

Sinks & splashbacks

Next to the sink, the sealant has to cope with constant water, including a food-safe sealant where that is needed. The bead is finished smooth so it wipes clean.
