About our bathroom resealing in Gorseness
Resealing is a small job that makes a big difference. Mouldy silicone makes even a new bathroom look neglected, and a clean white or clear joint fixes it quickly. It also seals the gaps that let water behind the bath. If you’re dealing with mouldy sealant that has gone black and damp behind the bath or under the tray, we can put it right, whatever the surface.
For a place like Gorseness, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.
A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

What we cannot put right
Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:
- A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
- A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
- Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.
What we seal
- Basins & vanity units
- Wet rooms
- Baths
- Shower trays & enclosures
- Kitchen worktops & upstands
- Sinks & splashbacks
How to look after the new joints
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Keep the fan on for a while after bathing
- Wipe up water along the back of the worktop
- Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
- Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
Keep bottles and razors off the sealant line, because they trap water against the silicone. A quick squeegee after showering keeps water from sitting on the joint.
Each shower pushes a little more water through a failed joint. Left alone, it soaks into the floor, the wall behind the tiles or the ceiling below. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.
Surface by surface
Wet rooms
A wet room floor and its walls can move independently, so the internal corners need silicone rather than grout. Cracked grout in a corner can be cut out and replaced with silicone.
Sinks & splashbacks
Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.
How we quote for bathroom resealing
The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- How many areas need sealing
- Whether the work is at height
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- How much there is to do
We don’t show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.
Asking for a quote
When you contact us, it’s useful to know:
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- The problem you’ve noticed
- Where the property is
Asking for a quote is easy: let us know what needs doing and where and its rough size. A few photos by email make the job easier to understand, and we will take it from there.
Why it’s worth doing now in Gorseness
A failed joint gets more costly to put right the longer it’s left. Once water is behind the bath, it can reach floorboards, panels and the ceiling underneath, and that is a far bigger job than a reseal. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.
Why us?
- You choose the colour before work begins
- A sealant colour to suit the surroundings

How the visit works
At the end, we look at the finished work together and tell you how long to leave it. The work normally takes around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom, depending on the size of the job. Outdoor work around Gorseness depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead, including the film left on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
- A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
- Finally we tidy up and explain the cure time before we leave.
How to prepare
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in

Advice
Bathroom resealing around Gorseness
Gorseness is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
Around Gorseness, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it. If you live in an older home near North Hackland Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Can I do it myself?
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.
Gorseness: your questions answered
Can you do bathroom resealing in Gorseness?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Gorseness is part of that. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.
Is Gorseness within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, including the islands, where work is planned around ferry crossings. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
How long does a bath or shower reseal take?
That depends on the number of joints and the state of the old sealant. Allow a couple of hours for a typical bath or shower.
Do you do commercial work?
Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us, and we are fully insured.
Can mouldy silicone be sorted out?
Yes, we replace the mouldy bead. Cleaning products may lighten it, but the lasting fix is new anti-fungal silicone on a clean, treated joint. Airing the room well helps stop it returning.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We are an ARBOMaster approved applicator, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.
What sealant do you use?
Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, chosen to suit the joint. We’ll tell you what we’re using and why.
