Trusted gutter sealing in Norseman

Gutter sealing in Norseman, done properly

We seal leaking gutter joints, end caps, fascia and soffit joints plus roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s joint work rather than new guttering. If you have stop ends leaking at the end of a run and earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off, we can put it right, on soffit joints, gutter joints and garage door frames alike.

Stone walls need a stone-friendly sealant, as acetoxy products can attack some stone. Newer houses need their movement joints and roofline trims kept sound.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

What affects the cost of gutter sealing

Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:

  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • Any working-time requirements on site

The cost depends on how much there is to do, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. You will have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Helping us quote

To help us quote quickly, let us know:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • A few photos by email, if you can

Call for a quick quote, or send an email if you’d rather. Describe what needs sealing and we will talk you through the work and give you a clear price.

Keeping the joints in good condition

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Check that water runs out of the downpipes
  • Watch for drips in a downpour
  • Clean out the gutters once or twice a year
  • Check fascia and soffit joints for gaps

Have a look at the gutter during a downpour now and then. Drips are easiest to spot while it’s raining.

A leaking garage frame lets water reach stored items. A reseal sorts it while the frame is sound.

Surface by surface

Gutter end caps

End caps take the pressure of water running along the gutter. When their seal fails, they drip.

Garage door frames

Resealing a garage door frame keeps rain and draughts out.

Your questions about gutter sealing in Norseman

Will you come out to Norseman?

Yes. Norseman is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, including the islands, where work is planned around ferry crossings. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is gutter sealing in a coastal place like Norseman any different?

Near the sea, outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland, so preparation and the right sealant matter all the more. Walls facing the sea are usually the first to need attention.

Do you work on high-level gutters?

That depends on the building. Tell us the height and what’s around the gutter and we’ll confirm what’s needed.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

How long does the job take?

That depends on how much there is to do, but most jobs take anything from an hour or two to a few hours. We’ll give you a better idea when we quote.

Will there be a smell?

That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, and it traps any mould or water underneath. We remove it all first.

What does gutter sealing cost?

Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. For a quick quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a short description of the job.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Leave it or put it right?

Leaving a leaking end cap can send water down the wall all winter. Resealing it is a quick job compared with treating damp later. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference.

Outside joints around Norseman

Norseman is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That’s hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface.

Around Norseman, as everywhere, gutter sealing is only as good as the preparation behind it. Whether the job is in Norseman itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Norseman is about 7 miles north-west of Kirkwall, in the Orkney Islands. Anywhere in KW17, we cover gutter sealing for homes and businesses. We cover 51 towns and villages across the Orkney Islands, from the larger towns to small villages.

Work in KW17 is quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. Other places close to Norseman include Isbister (1 mile east), Settiscarth (1 mile west), Gorseness (2 miles north-east), Tingwall (3 miles north-east) and Finstown (3 miles south). Remote and island addresses need a little more planning, so tell us where you are when you ask for a quote.

Landmarks near Norseman

Nearby you’ll also find Corrigall Farm Museum (3.4 miles west) and Langskaill House (4.1 miles north-east). For a walk, there’s Ward of Redland and Loch of Brockan.

How the visit works

There’s no need to move everything out, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the job takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run for a typical job. Outdoor work around Norseman depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. First we agree which joints need sealing.
  2. We clean out each joint.
  3. The joints are dried.
  4. We apply exterior or gutter sealant and finish it neatly.
  5. The joints are checked once sealed.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
