Gutter, fascia & soffit sealing in Tingwall, Orkney Islands
Gutter and fascia joints in Tingwall need attention? We remove the old material, prepare the joints and seal them properly.
- Water running down the wall below the gutter
- Rain getting in around a garage door
- Dripping gutter ends
The process
We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we’re working on, so you can get on with your day. Expect the work to take an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. Outdoor work around Tingwall depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.
- We start by tracing the leak and checking the gutter itself is sound.
- The joint or trim is cleaned out and old sealant removed.
- We make sure the joint is dry before sealing.
- We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters and outdoor use.
- The run is checked and any debris near the joints is cleared.
How to prepare
- Clear the area around the work
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in Tingwall
For gutter sealant to hold, the joint has to be clean and dry. So the old sealant and grime come out first, then dry the joint before sealing. If you have old gutter sealant that has let go and dripping gutter ends, we can put it right, on roofline trims, uPVC fascias and gutter end caps alike.
Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Tingwall depends on the weather. Tell us how to reach each wall, gutter and roofline.

Different surfaces, different methods
Gutter end caps
We seal end caps from the inside where we can reach once clean and dry.
Roofline trims
Roofline trims rely on sealant at their joints. When it splits, water can get behind.

Tingwall questions
Do you cover Tingwall for gutter sealing?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Tingwall is part of that. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear price.
Does the coastal weather in Tingwall affect outside sealant?
Coastal weather is harder on outside sealant: there’s more wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt in the air. Choosing the right sealant for the frame and wall, laid at the right depth, helps it last.
How long should I leave it?
That depends on the sealant used, so please follow the time we give you when we finish.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we are part of it.
Can new sealant go over the old?
No, it will not last. It may look fine at first, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.
Do you seal gaps in fascias and soffits?
Yes. Open joints along uPVC fascias and soffits can be sealed in a colour to suit.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Always. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, and it’s something we never do.
Do I need to be at home?
We need access to the joints, so we’ll agree that with you when we book. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.
Do you need gutter sealing in Tingwall?
Sealant laid on a wet or dirty joint fails early. Rushed repairs often don’t last long.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Trim joints where the sealant has failed
- Leaking gutter joints and stop ends
- Fascia boards with gaps between them
- Internal damp traced to a gutter joint
Whether the job is in Tingwall itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.
What your quote should include
- Who does the work, and how experienced they are
- What happens if the job turns out different
- What the quote includes, VAT included or not
- What product goes in the joint
What affects the quote in Tingwall
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:
- How much there is to do
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- The number of rooms or windows
- Any mould that needs treating
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, as water and mould keep getting in. If you’re unsure, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.
What we need to know
A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- Roughly how big the job is
To get a quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You will have a clear quote before we start.
Honest limits
We’d rather tell you now than do work that will not last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:
- Guttering that needs replacing
- Blocked downpipes
- Sagging gutters or broken brackets
Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before you book.
Surfaces we seal
- Roofline trims
- Gutter joints
- Soffit joints
- uPVC fascias
- Gutter end caps
- Garage door frames
Looking after it afterwards
How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Check that water runs out of the downpipes
- Check the gutters during heavy rain
- Get a dropping gutter looked at quickly
- Clean out the gutters once or twice a year
Keep the gutters clear of leaves and moss so water doesn’t sit on the joints. Water left in a gutter tests every joint.
Once roofline sealant splits, water can get behind it. Sealing it early keeps the boards behind dry.
Gutter sealing in Tingwall: local notes
Tingwall is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That is hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Work on the islands has to be planned around ferry crossings and the weather, so the more notice, the better.
Around Tingwall, as everywhere, gutter sealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

For landlords and businesses
Letting agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements.
A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance.
