Gutter sealing for Finstown homes and businesses

What happens if it’s left?

New gutters cost far more than a few resealed joints. If the gutter is sound and the drip is a joint a reseal is all it needs. If it’s broken or sagging, a gutter installer needs to look. Around Finstown, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in Finstown

Gaps along uPVC fascias and soffits look untidy and can let in water and draughts. They’re sealed in a matching colour where one is available. Common call-outs are for damp on an inside wall under a dripping gutter and drips from gutter joints and end caps, across gutter end caps, garage door frames and uPVC fascias.

External sealant needs dry surfaces, so outdoor work around Finstown is planned around the weather. Let us know about access to every wall and roofline.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee.

How we quote for gutter sealing

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • The size of the job
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out

We do not show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote.

What to tell us for a quote

To make quoting easier, let us know:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email pictures if that’s easy.

What happens on the day

On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The work itself takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours, including the tidy-up. For a place like Finstown, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. First we agree which joints need sealing.
  2. We clean out each joint.
  3. We make sure everything is dry.
  4. The sealant is applied and finished.
  5. The joints are checked once sealed.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

Advice

What gutter sealing looks like in Finstown

Finstown is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That is hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Work on the islands has to be planned around ferry crossings and the weather, so give us as much notice as you can.

Whether the job is in Finstown itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish. Around Finstown, as everywhere, gutter sealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Whether you’re in the middle of Finstown or further out, we cover gutter sealing for every kind of property, from flats and houses to offices and hotels. Finstown questions

Is gutter sealing in a coastal place like Finstown any different?

Coastal homes put outside sealant through more weather than inland ones, so preparation and the right sealant matter all the more. Walls facing the sea are normally the first to need attention.

Is Finstown within the area you cover?

Yes. Finstown is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, including the islands, where work is planned around ferry crossings. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We are fully insured.

How much does gutter sealing cost in Finstown?

Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. For a quick quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a short description of the job.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. If you can, email a few photos.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No. Fresh sealant doesn’t stick to old sealant, and it traps any mould or water underneath. We remove it all first.

Can I do it myself?

It depends on the job. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

What we cannot put right

We won’t take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:

  • Boards that have decayed or split
  • Guttering that needs replacing
  • Blocked downpipes

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we seal

  • Gutter end caps
  • Soffit joints
  • Garage door frames
  • Gutter joints
  • uPVC fascias
  • Roofline trims

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

How to look after the new joints

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Watch for drips in a downpour
  • Don’t lean ladders against the gutter itself
  • Deal with a drip before winter
  • Clean out the gutters once or twice a year

Leave the new sealant to cure as we advise and avoid disturbing it.

A leaking stop end is best sealed before the wet months. A winter of drips can lead to damp patches inside.
