Bathroom resealing in Imeraval, done properly

Resealing is a small job that makes a big difference. Black, patchy sealant makes clean tiles look tired, and a neat new joint puts that right in a short visit. It also seals the gaps that let water behind the bath. We work on baths, sinks & splashbacks and basins & vanity units, and people most often call us about water getting behind the kitchen upstand and new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting.

For a place like Imeraval, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

All our work comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Argyll and Bute.

Imeraval homes and their sealant

Imeraval is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

Around Imeraval, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Imeraval is in Argyll and Bute. Jobs in Imeraval get the same care as everywhere else we work: the old material taken out, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee. Across Argyll and Bute, we cover 118 places, Imeraval among them. Our Glasgow page covers work nearby (77 miles or so).

We work across the PA42 postcode area for bathroom resealing and the streets around it. Local streets include McKerral Road and Dail na Mara, and we cover them all. We also cover the places around Imeraval: Port Ellen (1 mile east), Ardbeg (4 miles east), Bowmore (9 miles north), Port Charlotte (10 miles north-west) and Bun Othan (12 miles west). Leave it or put it right?

Most of the work in a good reseal happens before any silicone goes on: cutting out every trace of the old bead, cleaning, treating mould and letting the joint dry. Skip those steps and even the best silicone fails early. Around Imeraval, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Imeraval questions

What guarantee comes with bathroom resealing in Imeraval?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Is Imeraval in your area for bathroom resealing?

Yes, Imeraval is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

How long will the resealing take?

It takes around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom. We will confirm how long your job needs when we quote.

Is it worth trying it myself?

That depends on the joint. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

Can you just seal over the old silicone?

No, and it’s one of the main reasons reseals fail. We cut out all of the old sealant, clean the joint and start again.

My sealant has gone black. Can you sort it?

Yes, we can. The old sealant comes out, the mould is treated, and we reseal with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

Which products do you use?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, chosen to suit the joint. We’ll tell you what we’re using and why.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes. Domestic, commercial and hotel work are all part of what we do.

Common problems we fix in Imeraval

Black mould is behind a lot of resealing. Bathrooms without good ventilation give mould all the damp it needs, and mould that has grown into the silicone normally won’t clean off.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
  • Leaking joints on a shower screen
  • Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
  • New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting

Homes close to St John's Church (Port Ellen) include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Who does the work, and how experienced they are
  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • What preparation is included

Aftercare tips

A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:

  • Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
  • Keep bottles off the sealant line
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth

Clean the silicone with care: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Avoid scouring pads and anything sharp, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.

A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning generally won’t remove it, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

When it is not the sealant

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • A bath or tray that moves because it isn’t properly supported
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

What we seal

  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Wet rooms

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

Surface by surface

Baths

Most bath leaks begin along the long edge, especially under a shower. It gets one smooth bead of anti-fungal silicone.

Shower trays & enclosures

The vertical joint where a screen profile meets the wall is a common leak point. We reseal it along with the base of the enclosure, sealing the side the enclosure’s instructions call for.

How it works

We bring everything the job needs with us, so you do not need to buy or prepare anything. Once we’ve agreed what’s being done, we protect the area and start. It normally takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead.
  2. Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
  3. We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
  4. We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
  5. Finally we tidy up and explain the cure time before we leave.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
