Bathroom resealing in Hopeman

Common questions in Hopeman

Is there a guarantee on bathroom resealing in Hopeman?

All our work, in Hopeman and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Will you come out to Hopeman?

Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?

No. It’s a common reason for reseals failing. The old joint is stripped, cleaned and resealed from scratch.

Which products do you use?

Each joint gets the product that suits it. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice, and we’ll explain our choice.

How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?

A single bath or shower takes about a couple of hours, old sealant removal included. A whole bathroom plus the kitchen may take most of the day.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes, often. We can quote for several properties at once, and between tenancies is a good time for the work.

Does someone need to be in?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help too.

Bathroom resealing in Hopeman, done properly

We fill the bath before sealing it. The weight settles the bath to its lowest point, so the bead is not stretched the first time someone gets in. It’s a small step that rushed reseals tend to skip. We work on baths, kitchen worktops & upstands and sinks & splashbacks, and the jobs we see most are shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop and lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt.

A bathroom in a place like Hopeman gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

What we do, step by step

Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. For a place like Hopeman, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you’re told the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Can I do it myself?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

Bathroom resealing around Hopeman

Hopeman is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

For jobs in and around Hopeman, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

Common problems we fix in Hopeman

Silicone doesn’t last for ever. Every shower, every splash and every wipe with a cleaner take their toll over the years, and how long it lasts comes down to use, cleaning and ventilation.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Water getting behind the kitchen upstand
  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black
  • Two layers of silicone, both failing
  • Splits where the tray meets the wall

In and around Hopeman, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

10 questions to ask before you book

How we quote for bathroom resealing

Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:

  • The number and length of the joints
  • The product the joint needs
  • How many areas need sealing
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, along with when we can work on site. Ask us for a quote and we will go through it with you.

What we need to know

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Whether it has been sealed before

Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location and its rough size. Photos by email help us understand the job, and we’ll take it from there.

Looking after it afterwards

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:

  • Keep bottles off the sealant line
  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use
  • Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade

Mould needs damp, so keep the room aired. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the bead dries out between uses.

Watch for the early signs: a corner lifting, a gap behind the bead, a dark line under the silicone or a damp patch on the ceiling below. Any of these means the joint needs attention.

When it is not the sealant

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.
