We work through the job in order: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes a few hours for most joints, depending on how much old sealant has to come out. Around Hopeman, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.
- The failure is looked at first, so we know whether it’s sealant, movement or water from elsewhere.
- Each layer is cut out and the residue cleaned off.
- We treat any mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
- We reseal with a product suited to the joint, backed where needed.
- The joint is tooled and you’re told about anything else we found.
How to prepare
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

Remedial sealant in Hopeman, done properly
Decorators’ caulk in a shower, bathroom silicone on a window, a rigid filler in a movement joint will not last, however tidy it looks. Out it comes, and in goes a sealant suited to the job. We work on expansion joints, failed movement joints and botched or over-sealed joints, and common reasons people get in touch are movement joints that have split or pulled away and dark patches showing through the sealant.
Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.
We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

Surface by surface
Windows & doors
Frames resealed over the top end up with hard, layered mastic. We remove it all and clean back to sound surfaces.
Worktops & kitchens
Kitchen joints often have grease and cleaning residue deep in them, so we spend extra time cleaning before resealing.

What remedial sealant looks like in Hopeman
Hopeman is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.
In and around Hopeman, as anywhere, good remedial sealant starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. Whether the job is in Hopeman itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

How we quote for remedial sealant
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:
- How much there is to do
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- How easy the joints are to reach
There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
What we need to know
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- Photos by email, if that is easy
- Where the property is
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email pictures if that’s easy.
Honest limits
Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant won’t put right:
- Movement from fittings that are not supported
- Cracks in the fitting rather than the joint
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.
Surfaces we seal
- Leaking tray & enclosure joints
- Failed movement joints
- Shrunken worktop sealant
- Botched or over-sealed joints
- Expansion joints
- Mouldy bath & shower sealant
How to look after the new joints
Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:
- Never fill a movement joint with mortar or grout
- Act on a lifting corner right away
- Report a tray that rocks or a worktop that lifts
- Keep bleach and abrasives off the bead
Go easy on the new sealant: no scraping, scouring pads or harsh chemicals.
Mould trapped under over-sealed joints spreads unseen. By the time it shows through, the joint is well past saving.
Leave it or put it right?
Spraying mould remover on a sealed-over joint doesn’t reach what’s underneath. The layers have to come out, so the joint can be treated and resealed. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we will go through it with you.
