Bathroom resealing in Farr

Resealing is a small job that makes a big difference. Mouldy silicone makes even a new bathroom look neglected, and a clean white or clear joint fixes it quickly. Just as important, it closes the gaps water would otherwise get through. If you have leaking joints on a shower screen and black spots spreading through the bead, we can help, on shower trays & enclosures, baths and wet rooms alike.

For a place like Farr, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

The process

We keep the work tidy and contained to the joints we are treating, so you can get on with your day. Expect the work to take two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is, and we explain the cure time before we leave. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Getting ready for the visit

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

What bathroom resealing looks like in Farr

Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

Whether the job is in Farr itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish. In and around Farr, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Farr is about 6 miles south of Inverness, in Highland. Wherever you are in the IV2 postcode area, our applicators can take on bathroom resealing. Farr is one of 253 towns and villages in Highland where we work. Dundee is on our list too, about 78 miles from Farr.

Work in IV2 works the same way as everywhere else we cover. You will find Farr on the B851, which makes it straightforward to reach with everything needed for bathroom resealing. We also cover Milton of Leys (4 miles north), Slackbuie (4 miles north), Lochardil (5 miles north), Hilton (5 miles north) and Dores (6 miles west). We also work in nearby towns such as Inverness (6 miles north), Cradlehall (7 miles north), Merkinch (7 miles north), Crown (6 miles north), Millburn (7 miles north) and Muir of Ord (14 miles north-west). For island and remote addresses, the job takes a little more planning, so mention it when you ask for a quote.

Around Farr

Nearby you will also find Leys Castle (3.7 miles north) and Raigmore Hospital (6 miles north). The countryside around Farr includes Loch Farr.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in Farr

Do you cover Farr for bathroom resealing?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Farr is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.

Is Farr within the area you cover?

Yes, Farr is covered. We work across all of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?

Yes. The old sealant comes out, the mould is treated, and we reseal with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

Is there any odour?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures, but it fades. Opening a window helps.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, we are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.

Does the resealing come with a guarantee?

Yes. Every job carries our one-year guarantee.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes. Domestic, commercial and hotel work are all part of what we do, and we’re fully insured.

Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?

Yes. The old sealant is cut out and the joint degreased, because cooking grease stops silicone sticking, then we reseal in a colour to suit.

What sealant work cannot fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that’s regrouting)

If you’re not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Where we work in Farr

  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Shower trays & enclosures

What the job involves on each surface

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Water behind a laminate worktop can make the edge swell. A sound joint along the back edge stops that.

Shower trays & enclosures

The vertical joint where a screen profile meets the wall is a common leak point. It’s resealed along with the tray joints, sealing the side the enclosure’s instructions call for.

Keeping the joints in good condition

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Wait for the cure time we give you
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower

Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.

Small signs come before a leak: a corner lifting, a gap behind the bead, a dark line under the silicone or a damp patch on the ceiling below. If you spot one, it’s time to reseal.

Should I try it myself first?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
