Bathroom resealing in Àird

Before a bath is sealed, it’s filled with water. The weight settles the bath to its lowest point, so the bead isn’t stretched the first time someone gets in. It’s a small step that rushed reseals tend to skip. If you have failed sealant on the screen profile and a messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal, we can help.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are generally the first signs.

You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Àird

Àird is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

For jobs in and around Àird, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

Àird is in Highland. From the centre of Àird to the outskirts, we cover bathroom resealing for every kind of property. 253 places in Highland are on our list, from the larger towns to small villages.

Work in IV22 works the same way as everywhere else we cover. That includes homes and businesses on Mackenzie Square and Pier Road and the roads around them. We also cover Aultbea (1 mile east), Laide (3 miles north-east), Inverasdale (3 miles south-west), Poolewe (5 miles south) and Gairloch (8 miles south-west). For island and remote addresses, a little more planning is needed.

Landlord and commercial work in Àird

Common problems we fix in Àird

With age, silicone loses its stretch. In kitchens it often shrinks away from the back edge, leaving a thin gap where water and food collect. Heat from the hob and strong sprays speed it along.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • Two layers of silicone, both failing
  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Splits where the tray meets the wall

Around Àird, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

What your quote should include

  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
  • Whether VAT is included
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • Who turns up on the day

10 questions to ask before you book

Surface by surface

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Upstands and back edges are cut out, cleaned of grease and resealed, because cooking grease stops sealant bonding. The extra cleaning is what makes the bead last.

Baths

The long joint down the side of a bath is where most leaks start, particularly where there’s a shower over the bath. We finish it with a single, even bead of anti-fungal silicone.

Àird questions

Is Àird in your area for bathroom resealing?

Yes, Àird is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Will you come out to Àird?

Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator and we are fully insured too.

Do the sealants smell?

Sometimes, a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures.

What information do you need?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. If you can, email a few pictures.

Do I have to be there?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.

Where do you work from?

We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Àird.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us, and we are fully insured.

When something else is needed

We won’t take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units

The process

There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The job generally takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen from start to finish. For a place like Àird, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Advice

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

We do not publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. The quote depends on:

  • The product the joint needs
  • Whether the work is at height
  • The amount of work
  • When we can work, for business premises

Doing several joints on one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll send you a clear quote for the lot.

What to tell us for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Whether it’s a home or a business

Every job is quoted individually. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details, and photos are welcome.

How to look after the new joints

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use
  • Keep bottles off the sealant line
  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
  • Wait for the cure time we give you

Don’t stand bottles along the bead, as they hold water against it. A quick squeegee after showering helps the joint dry.

Watch for the early signs: a corner lifting, a gap behind the bead, a dark line under the silicone or a damp patch on the ceiling below. If you spot one, it’s time to reseal.
