Gairloch Bathroom Resealing
Bathroom resealing across Gairloch and nearby, with old sealant always removed completely.
- A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
- Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
- Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
Looking after it afterwards
Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:
- Dry the bead with a towel now and then
- Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
- Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
- Don’t leave water standing on kitchen joints
Give the silicone time to cure before it gets wet, which is generally around 24 hours. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.
Worktop joints fail quietly. Water gets behind the upstand and into the edge of a laminate worktop, where it can make the board swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.
Bathroom resealing in Gairloch, done properly
The bead of silicone around a bath, tray or worktop is what keeps water out of the gaps. When it splits, shrinks or turns black, water gets behind it into walls, panels and floors. Our team cut the old bead out completely and lay a new one in anti-fungal sanitary silicone. If you are dealing with leaking joints on a shower screen and splits where the tray meets the wall, we can put it right, whatever the surface.
Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.
The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

The process
Once we are on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. Most jobs then take around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom. Outside jobs in Gairloch need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors is not affected.
- We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
- The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
- Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
- When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
- We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

What sealant work cannot fix

- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)

- Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support

Common questions in Gairloch
Is there a guarantee on bathroom resealing in Gairloch?
Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
Will you come out to Gairloch?
Yes, Gairloch is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do I need to be at home?
We need access to the joints, so we’ll agree that with you when we book. Indoors, that normally means someone at home.
Is white the only colour available?
There’s a choice: white, clear and colours to suit tiles and worktops. We can help you pick when we quote.
How much does bathroom resealing cost in Gairloch?
Size, access and the old material all affect the cost. Ask us for a quote.
How long before the new sealant can get wet?
We give you the cure time before we leave, and it’s normally around 24 hours. Getting it wet too early can spoil the new joint.
Where do you work from?
Our base is in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We are an ARBOMaster approved applicator, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.
Signs you need bathroom resealing in Gairloch
Sealing over old silicone is one of the commonest mistakes we find. Fresh silicone can’t grip the old bead underneath, so it lifts, lets water in and traps mould underneath.
Look out for these signs:
- Splits where the tray meets the wall
- New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
- Smears of silicone across the tiles
- A bead that has pulled away from the tiles
If you look after a building such as Gairloch High School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether they seal over old material or remove it
- Whether you can choose the colour
- How much experience the applicator has
- What product goes in the joint
Different surfaces, different methods
Baths
Baths move more than any other fitting, so we fill it with water before sealing. That way the joint is laid with the bath at its heaviest and is not torn the first time it’s used.
Basins & vanity units
Vanity units have long, worktop-style joints against the wall. If water gets in, the cabinet underneath can swell, so a neat, continuous bead matters.

Bathroom resealing in Gairloch: local notes
Gairloch is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.
Around Gairloch, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Should I try it myself first?
Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.
