What remedial sealant looks like in Lonemore
Lonemore is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.
If you look after a building such as Gairloch High School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. In and around Lonemore, as anywhere, good remedial sealant starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Remedial sealant in Lonemore
A movement joint stops working when its sealant splits or sets hard. We cut out the failed sealant and set the depth with backing, before resealing with a flexible product suited to the movement. If you are dealing with caulk or the wrong sealant used in a wet area and repeat leaks from the same joint, we can put it right.
Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are normally the first signs.
We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

Why act early in Lonemore
Remedial work takes longer than a straight reseal, but not by much: it takes a few hours, depending on how many layers have to come out. Compared with chasing the same leak every few months, it’s time well spent. In a place like Lonemore, small leaks are easy to put off, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference.

Quotes for remedial sealant in Lonemore
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:
- The number of rooms or windows
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- When we can work, for business premises
- Which sealant suits the joint
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs, along with when we can work on site. Ask us for a quote and we will explain what it covers.

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

How the visit works
When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours, depending on how many layers have to come out. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.
- First we work out whether the problem is the sealant, movement or a leak.
- Each layer is cut out and the residue cleaned off.
- Mould is treated and the joint dried.
- The right product goes in, with backing where the joint moves.
- The joint is tooled and you are told about anything else we found.
How to prepare
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Clear the area around the work
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

Advice
DIY sealant or a professional job?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
FAQs for Lonemore
What guarantee comes with remedial sealant in Lonemore?
All our work, in Lonemore and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
Can you do remedial sealant in Lonemore?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Lonemore is part of that. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
Can you strip sealant from an acrylic tray safely?
Yes. The old bead is cut and lifted with tools that suit the surface, then clean off the residue. Any existing damage is pointed out before any work starts.
My shower still leaks after a reseal. Can you sort it?
Yes. Repeat leaks normally come from over-sealing, movement or water getting in elsewhere, so we find that first.
Can failed expansion joints be resealed?
Yes. The depth is set with backing so the sealant only bonds to the two sides.
What should I tell you?
Let us know what needs doing and where. We’ll ask anything else we need to know.
Does someone need to be in?
That depends on where the joints are. Inside work needs someone to give us access.
How long before the joint can be used?
Cure times vary by product and the conditions. We tell you how long to leave it before we go.
Surface by surface
Leaking trays & enclosures
If the tray is cracked, or the leak is from the valve or waste, sealant won’t fix it. We will tell you what we find.
Windows & doors
Frames resealed over the top end up with hard, layered mastic. All of it is cut out and the frame and wall cleaned.
Looking after it afterwards
Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:
- Always have old sealant cut out, not covered
- Get the cause of a repeat leak found before resealing
- Keep the room well ventilated
- Check ceilings under showers for marks
If we’ve found a cause, such as a loose tray or a leaking waste, get it fixed, because the new sealant cannot hold back a problem underneath.
A failing joint rarely gets better on its own. Each use pushes more water behind the bead, into floors, walls or ceilings. Sorting it early limits the damage.
