Regrouting in World's End

Before we start, the tiles are checked. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, because regrouting will not fix what’s behind them. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. If you have grout washed out of a shower and grout in a colour the owner wants to change, we can help, whatever the surface.

London’s water is hard, so limescale builds up along sealant lines, in grout and on fittings. For a bathroom or kitchen in World's End, getting the joints right keeps water where it belongs and the room looking clean.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

Regrouting in World's End: local notes

There are hotels and other places to stay in and around World's End. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room. London’s water is hard, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and taps, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

In the older streets around St John's Church Centre, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. As a London address, World's End can be tricky for parking: let us know about parking bays, permits or a driveway.

World's End is about 2 miles south-east of Kensington, in Greater London. From the centre of World's End to the outskirts, regrouting is available for homes and businesses alike. 764 places in Greater London are on our list, from the larger towns to small villages.

Every address in SW10, SW6 and SW3 is within our area for regrouting, from the main roads to the quietest streets. That includes homes and businesses on Ann Lane, Lots Road and Avalon Road and the roads around them. What the job involves on each surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Splash areas around basins and baths stain first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.

Shower walls

The grout in a shower takes the brunt of the water. We rake it out and regrout, and reseal the corners.

Signs you need regrouting in World's End

Grout used in corners or along the bath cracks because those joints flex. They need flexible sealant, and if they’re grouted, a crack soon lets water in.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
  • Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
  • Floor grout that won’t come clean

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Ashburnham Community School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

10 questions to ask before you book

Why deal with it now?

Grouting over old grout rarely lasts. A thin skin on top tends to break off, taking any repair with it. Removing the old grout to an even depth lets the new grout key in properly. In a flat in World's End, failed sealant seldom stays inside your own four walls: water from a shower or window joint can reach the flat below, and gaps in fire-stopping matter to everyone in the building.

Leaving a failed joint generally makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

Your questions about regrouting in World's End

Can parking be tricky for a visit in World's End?

London parking needs a little planning, so let us know about permits, bays or a driveway when you book. The visit is then planned around what’s available.

Do you work in hotels near World's End?

Yes. Hotel and guest-house work is part of what we do. Work can be planned room by room, and out-of-hours working can be arranged.

Where are you based?

Our base is Crawley. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

Should I try DIY first?

Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it doesn’t work out, we can redo it.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work.

Should corners be grouted or sealed?

Flexible sealant. Grout is for the joints between tiles and moving joints need sealant.

Do I need to be at home?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.

Will regrouting fix loose tiles?

Loose tiles need refixing before regrouting. We’ll show you which ones at the start.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout

Check the corner silicone now and then. Corners flex, so the sealant there will need renewing in time.

Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

What we do, step by step

All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so you don’t need to buy or prepare anything. Once we have agreed what’s being done, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Many London jobs are in flats, so we come ready for stairs, narrow hallways and shared entrances. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents when you book.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

Preparing for the visit

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

Advice

What sealant work cannot fix

It helps to know what we cannot do:

  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will tell you honestly.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Bathroom floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Shower walls
  • Tiled floors

Should I try it myself first?

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.
