Regrouting in Stronord, done properly
If you’ve been scrubbing grout that will not come clean, the discolouration has usually soaked into the grout. Replacing it is the lasting answer, and it’s a chance to change the colour too. We’re often asked to deal with old grout in a dated colour and floor grout that won’t come clean, on kitchen splashbacks, bathroom wall tiles and wet rooms.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Stronord work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.
You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What happens on the day
Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and tidy away. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Outdoor work around Stronord depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
- We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
- The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
- Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
- Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.
Preparing for the visit

Advice
Regrouting around Stronord
Stronord is within about 3 miles of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
Whether the job is in Stronord itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Why deal with it now?
Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Left alone, that water can loosen tiles or damage the wall, which turns a regrout into a retile. Dealing with it now keeps it small. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.

Looking after it afterwards
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Wipe water off the walls when you are done
- Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
- Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
- Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
Have any tile that moves checked right away. Movement will crack the new grout and open a path for water.
Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left, the same problem can let water through so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.
DIY sealant or a professional job?
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
When to call us in Stronord
Grout that was put in corners cracks as the bath or tray moves. Those joints should be silicone, and if they’re grouted, a crack soon lets water in.
People usually contact us after spotting something like this:
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
- Grout that makes sound tiles look old
- Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
- Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
In and around Stronord, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Your questions about regrouting in Stronord
Is there a guarantee on regrouting in Stronord?
Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
Is Stronord in your area for regrouting?
Yes, Stronord is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.
How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?
Before we leave, we will tell you how long to wait. The grout and sealant both need to cure before the shower is used.
Can you regrout just the shower?
Yes, that is common. Shower grout tends to go before the rest, so it’s often the only area that needs doing.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Tell us what needs doing and where, plus photos if you have them. If we need more, we will ask.
Do I have to be there?
For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. Once we have agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.
How much does regrouting cost in Stronord?
There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. We agree the price before any work begins.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned before applying anything new.
How we quote for regrouting
We don’t publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. The quote depends on:
- Which sealant suits the joint
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- Working hours on commercial sites
- How many areas need sealing
What it costs depends on how much there is to do, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. We give a clear quote before we start.
What to tell us for a quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:
- The problem you’ve noticed
- Roughly how big the job is
- How we’d reach the joints
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is. When it suits you, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
What sealant work cannot fix
In fairness, some problems need a different trade:
- Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
- Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
- Movement in a stud wall or floor
If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.
