How we handle bathroom resealing in Stronord
Homes in Stronord have the same weak spots as anywhere else: the long edge of the bath, the base of the shower tray, the back of the basin and the line along the worktop. Every joint is cut out, cleaned and left dry before it’s resealed. We work on wet rooms, basins & vanity units and kitchen worktops & upstands, and the jobs we see most are damp behind the bath or under the tray and gaps where the bath or tray has moved.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Stronord work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

Aftercare tips
Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:
- Squeegee the walls and tray after use
- Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
- Keep bottles off the sealant line
- Never pick at the silicone with a blade
In a kitchen, do not let water sit along the back of the worktop and keep hot pans away from the silicone. A dry joint lasts longer.
A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.
Different surfaces, different methods
Baths
Baths move more than any other fitting, so it’s filled with water before the bead goes on. That way the joint is laid with the bath at its heaviest and is not torn the first time it’s used.
Sinks & splashbacks
Next to the sink, the sealant has to cope with constant water, and a food-safe product where it’s needed. The bead is finished smooth so it wipes clean.
What affects the cost of bathroom resealing
Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- Whether the work is at height
- Any working-time requirements on site
- The number and length of the joints
Combining jobs into one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.

Stronord: your questions answered
Is Stronord within the area you cover?
Yes, Stronord is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Is bathroom resealing in Stronord guaranteed?
All our work, in Stronord and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
How long before the new sealant can get wet?
Around 24 hours is typical, and we confirm the time for the product used. Getting it wet too early can spoil the new joint.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.
Is there any odour?
There can be a smell while the sealant cures, which fades as it sets. Opening a window helps.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. We’re fully insured.
Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?
Yes, we can. The old sealant comes out, the mould is treated, and we reseal with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.
Is white the only colour available?
White and clear are the most common choices, but other colours can be used to suit tiles and worktops. Let us know your preference when you ask for a quote.
What happens on the day
On the day, we look over the joints with you first, so you know exactly what we are doing. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work starts. The work generally takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is. Outside jobs in Stronord need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
- The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
- Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
- When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
- The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Mention any parking rules near the property

Advice
DIY versus a professional finish
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.
A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Common problems we fix in Stronord
Not every tube in the shop is meant for a shower. Acrylic caulk and general-purpose sealants are not designed for a joint that’s wet every day, so they stain, crack or go mouldy before long. A bathroom joint needs anti-fungal sanitary silicone.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
- Two layers of silicone, both failing
- Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
- Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
For jobs in and around Stronord, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Stronord
Stronord is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.
In and around Stronord, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
