How we handle window mastic in Stronord
From a single sill to a whole house of windows, you will get a clear quote before work begins. To get one, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the number of frames and any access details. We work on patio & French doors, window sills and aluminium frames, and common reasons people get in touch are mastic that’s falling out in pieces and sealant in the wrong colour for the frame.
Many older Scottish homes still have timber windows set into stone walls. Those suit a traditional sand mastic or a neutral-cure sealant, not an acetoxy silicone that can attack some stone.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right with it, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Honest limits
Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not solve:
- Damp problems in the wall away from the window
- A sash or casement that will not close properly
- A door that needs adjusting, rehanging or new seals
Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
Letting agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the address, the job and how access works.
Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.
Should I try it myself first?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.
Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
How the visit works
Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. It normally takes a few hours for a few frames, or a day or more for a whole house. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.
- Each frame is looked over and we agree which ones need resealing.
- The old mastic is cut out and scraped back to clean surfaces.
- Where the gap is deep, backing rod goes in first.
- The new sealant goes on in white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear to suit.
- Every joint is tooled smooth and checked before we leave.
Preparing for the visit
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
How to get a quote

Signs you need window mastic in Stronord
Frames are never completely still. A plastic or aluminium frame lengthens in sunshine and shortens as it cools, while the brick or render around it hardly moves. If the sealant can’t stretch, it splits.
The problems people usually mention when they call include:
- Gaps between the frame and the inside reveal
- Cracked or shrunken mastic around the frame
- Gaps where the sill meets the wall
- Damp patches on the reveal after heavy rain
For jobs in and around Stronord, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.
What your quote should include
- Who turns up on the day
- Whether they’re fully insured
- How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
- Whether the sealant suits the joint
Frames and glazing around Stronord
Stronord is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on the mastic around window and door frames, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Sash and case windows are common in older Scottish homes, often pointed into the wall with traditional sand mastic.
Around Stronord, as everywhere, window mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Surface by surface
Patio & French doors
Patio and French doors have the longest joints on most houses. The threshold and the bottom corners take the most water, so we pay close attention there.
uPVC windows
Fitters’ mastic on plastic frames is sometimes thin and rushed. We cut it out, back any deep gaps and reseal properly.
Stronord questions
Can you do window mastic in Stronord?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Stronord is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will send you a clear quote.
Does living near the coast affect window mastic in Stronord?
Coastal homes put outside sealant through more weather than inland ones, so preparation and the right sealant matter all the more. It’s worth checking the walls that face the sea first.
What information do you need?
Tell us what needs doing and where. If we need more, we will ask.
What does window mastic cost?
Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. To get one, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing and where.
Where do you work from?
Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.
How long will my window job take?
That depends on the number of frames, how they’re reached and the state of the old mastic. You will know the timing when we quote.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Always. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.
Can you seal over the old sealant?
No, and we never do. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new bead soon lifts. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.
Aftercare tips
Looking after new joints is easy:
- Don’t use solvent cleaners on the joint
- Look round the frames every year or so
- Keep paint and stain on wooden frames in good order
- Air rooms to keep condensation down around windows
Timber frames need their paint kept up, since wood that gets wet swells and shrinks more. Paint up to the joint, not over the silicone.
Wet, windy weather is when failed mastic shows itself, but sealant goes on best when frames and walls are dry. Sorting cracked mastic early means the joint is sound before the bad weather.
