Regrouting for Ruchazie homes and businesses

The process

There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we’ll get on with it. The job generally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area from start to finish. Parking in city streets around Ruchazie can be tight or controlled, so it helps to know about permits or nearby bays. If you’re in a flat, let us know how we get in at the street door.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

Before we arrive

Advice

Regrouting in Ruchazie

Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, or just the area that has failed. Either way, tiled areas in Ruchazie are handled the same careful way. We work on wet rooms, tiled floors and kitchen splashbacks, and common reasons people get in touch are a grout colour that no longer suits the room and dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor.

Stone-built tenements are part of every Scottish city, alongside houses and newer flats. In a tenement, most bathrooms sit above someone else’s ceiling, so failed sealant around a bath or shower can soon become a neighbour’s problem.

Our work is backed for twelve months, in Ruchazie and everywhere else we cover.

What the job involves on each surface

Shower walls

A shower wall is soaked daily, so its grout takes the most punishment. It’s often the first place grout washes out.

Corners and edges

Internal corners move, so we seal them rather than grout them.

Regrouting in Ruchazie: local notes

In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

If you let a flat or house near Robroyston station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again. If you look after a building such as St Andrew's Secondary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • The amount of work
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • The type of sealant required
  • How many areas need sealing

Doing several joints on one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.

Helping us quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • The address or postcode of the job

DIY sealant or a professional job?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, then guaranteed for a year.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Your questions about regrouting in Ruchazie

Can a failed shower seal in a tenement flat in Ruchazie leak into the flat below?

Yes, and the first sign is often a mark on the ceiling below. A proper reseal, with all the old sealant cut out, stops it at the source.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Robroyston station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

How much does regrouting cost in Ruchazie?

The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Call for a quick quote.

Do you work in Ruchazie?

Yes. We work in Ruchazie and the rest of Glasgow. For a quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

How long should I wait before showering?

The wait depends on the materials and how warm the room is. We’ll tell you exactly how long at the end of the visit.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes, we often do. Shower grout tends to go before the rest, so many people regrout just that part.

Are you insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured.

Is it messy?

Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Honest limits

It helps to know what we cannot do:

  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Letting agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements and we’ll give you a quote.

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance.

Keeping the joints in good condition

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Rinse the tiles after showering

Check the corner silicone now and then. Corners flex, so it’s normally the first thing to need attention, long before the grout does.

Stains that will not clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward while the tiles are still sound.
