Regrouting for Richmond homes and businesses

About our regrouting in Richmond

We check the tiles before any grout comes out. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, since new grout can’t fix a problem underneath. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. Typical jobs include grout in a colour the owner wants to change and stained grout that cleaning won’t shift, on bathroom wall tiles, kitchen splashbacks and shower walls.

London homes include a lot of flats, conversions and mansion blocks, and many bathrooms sit right above someone else’s ceiling. In Richmond, that’s a good reason to put tired sealant and grout right early.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee.

How it works

A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, protect the area around them, carry out the job and clear up. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. In a London area like Richmond, the main things to plan are parking and access: let us know about parking, the floor we will be working on and any lift or shared entrance.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Tell us if parking is tricky

Landlord and commercial work in Richmond

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, the work is the same standard: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

Should I try it myself first?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

What regrouting looks like in Richmond

There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Richmond. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room. In a London flat, water from a failed bath or shower seal can reach the neighbours below, which is why it’s worth fixing early.

Homes close to The Vineyard Church include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. As a London address, Richmond can be tricky for parking: let us know about parking bays, permits or a driveway. Schools such as The Vineyard School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Your questions about regrouting in Richmond

Do you work for hotels and guest houses in Richmond?

Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Work can be planned room by room, and out-of-hours working can be arranged.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Richmond station?

Yes. We work for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners, and several properties can go on one quote. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear price.

Is resealing included with regrouting?

We normally do. New grout beside old sealant wouldn’t look right and wouldn’t keep water out.

Do you work in Richmond?

Yes. We cover Richmond. To book, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator, the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants.

How long does the job take?

Typically it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Larger jobs naturally take longer, and we will say how long yours will take.

Do you grout the corners?

Internal corners and edges are sealed with flexible silicone. Grout in those joints cracks as the building moves.

Where are you based?

We are based in Crawley, West Sussex, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Surface by surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Whole bathroom walls can be regrouted in one visit or more, depending on the area. You can change the colour at the same time.

Shower walls

Shower walls get wet every day, so its grout takes the most punishment. It usually fails first.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:

  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam

Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner with a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it because they wear grout away.

Stains that won’t clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. At this point it’s a simple regrout, before the joints open up.

Leave it or put it right?

Patching a few joints can look like a quick win, but patched grout rarely matches the rest and the old grout carries on failing. Regrouting the whole area gives an even, lasting finish. Damp from a failed joint spreads quietly in older London brickwork and timber, and once it shows in Richmond, the repair is bigger than a sealant job.

Leaving a failed joint generally makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you an honest view and a quote.
